⌗Mingi⌗
Forget about him.
Just stop thinking about him and move on.
Move on, damn it.
Mingi says repeatedly in his head as he stares out the window at the pouring rain. The weather matching his mood almost exactly. He was sure it wasn't a coincidence.
He pulls his right knee up to his chest and the other leg dangles off the side of the window sill he was seated at. His head rests on the cold glass pane and his eyes watching carefully as each rain drop slid down the glass then another falls on the window and continues the cycle.
It'd been a little over a week now since he left Lloth. And there hadn't been a single day that went by that he didn't think of Yunho. The gentle, soft spoken drow was all that plagued his mind constantly. He misses him. So much so he was starting to regret leaving.
He shakes his head and sucks his teeth to dismiss that thought. He's with his family now. They'll do a much better job protecting him than I ever will. He tells himself.
For the first time in a long while his mind was at peace and his eyelids felt heavy. He inhales deeply and shifts comfortably on the window sill, the rhythmic sounds of the rain doing it's part in slowly carrying away his consciousness.
Just then the door bursts open and he jolts up in surprise. "You won't believe what I found on my way to the square" His friend, Jiwon, rushes in slightly out of breath as though he'd been running.
Mingi cocks his head to the side in confusion at the older's frazzled state. His dark hair and tan skin damp probably from running in the rain. His eyes, chestnut irises, appearing darker than usual. A bit of anger in his gaze.
"W-what? What is it?" He sits up straighter when it properly sinks in how outraged Jiwon looked.
"Look" He pulls out a crumpled piece of paper from his jacket pocket as he stalks closer to the younger. The rain softened poster was held up to his face and his heart skips a beat.
Because what stared back at him was a wanted poster. Of him. '1 billion won to the capture and return of this man' it read with a photo of him as well as his name written in every language they could fit on the paper.
"I-" He opens his mouth to say something but nothing comes out. He was in shock. Probably because he'd never been on a wanted poster before. And for so much money too. And the fact that Naex's royal family had their emblem pasted at the top right hand corner making it that much more official made a chill run down his back.
He knew they must've figured out by now he was one of the ones behind that night. He just figured they'd let him go after all what's one harmless human going to do to anyone. But apparently his face was out there pasted all over Naex and now his own home, Astia. His own country where he thought no vampire could harm him. So much for that.
"Those damn vampires" Jiwon slaps the paper on Mingi's desk, startling him back to attention. The older runs his hand through his hair in frustration. "And that incompetent so called King, Shindong, allowed this? To sell out one of our own after he'd been captured for years just to kiss up to Jaejoong?"
"He didn't have a choice" Another voice sounds from the doorway, there stood Jiwon's wife. Hands on her hips as she leans on doorway.
Jiwon immediately rushes towards the doorway at the sight of his pregnant wife. "Hyori.. I told you to go get some rest" He whines, gently taking her hand. Like Jiwon, she appeared damp. They were both on their way home when it started raining.
"So you can get Mingi worked up?" She takes his arm as he leads her to the chair in front of Mingi's small desk. "King Shindong only did what he felt was necessary. The last thing we need is to involve ourselves in the war with the vampires and wolves" She rubs slow circles over her 6 month pregnancy bump.
"He's a coward" Jiwon sucks his teeth.
Mingi immediately gets up, his gaze to the floor. "I'm so sorry for the trouble" He says curtly, his voice slightly strained and with a deep 90 degree bow. "The last thing I wanted was to bring any trouble to you or your family, hyung. I just.. I didn't know where else to go" He whispers the last part to himself but they heard him loud and clear in the quiet of the room. Yes, he escaped Naex but it's not like he had any close family waiting for him in Astia. Why else did he willingly stay with the vampires for so long.
He's an orphan and had been practically raised in an orphanage. That's where he met Jiwon. Until Jaejoong took him in when he was in Astia for a meeting.
Jiwon looks at his wife with a raised brow as if he couldn't believe what he heard. "What the hell are you going on about? We are family-"
"But technically you're not" He cuts the older off, a pained expression on his face. "You have your own family to take care of" He gestures at his pregnant wife. "The last thing I want is to cause trouble for the both of you"
"Stop" Jiwon's voice blared and a silence follows. All that's heard is the rhythmic sounds of the rain outside, beating slowly against the windows. "Fuck technicalities. We're family and family looks after each other. I invited you in my home, fed you my food, gave you my clothes because I want to. You're not a burden and you aren't causing any trouble for us. Ok?" He steps closer to Mingi whose eyes stayed fixed to the floor, lips in a neutral line.
"And this?" Jiwon lifts the wanted poster slightly. "We'll figure it out. We will"
Mingi nods solemnly before Jiwon envelopes him in a gentle hug.
