Birds chirped quietly, letting you know that it was time to get up and get ready. You had been laying still in the hammock for the past twenty minutes, the only movement from you being your hand gently stroking Revali's feathers as he snuggled up with you.
"Revali..." You didn't want to leave him, especially when the pair of you were the most comfortable now than you had been for the past few days, and you were especially dreading the day, as it was still the day before Zelda's birthday. "Revali, wake up..."
"No..." He groaned as he held you tighter, nuzzling his beak into your hair. "You should stay..." You continued to pet his head, staring out the window at the grey and blue sky, not seeing the sun yet but knowing it was going to be there shortly. A sign you would have to be on the road by the time it appeared.
"I want to, I do, but I have to leave now." He refused to let go of you, and you sighed and made the effort to get out of your comfortable spot anyways. He reached for you as you got out and walked over to your dresser to grab a few last things, having fortunately had enough time to pack mostly the night before.
"You can't stay even twenty more minutes?" He asked, and you looked over at him- the forlorn look in his eyes only making you want to stay more. Even still, you sighed and continued packing the last of your necessities. "Can I at least get the kids and come with you?"
"No. I want the children to stay as far from the castle as possible, just in case." You zipped up your bag and started changing into your better traveling clothes, and he pouted as he hung his head and wing over the side of the hammock, watching as you got yourself ready.
"_____," He breathed, starting to lift himself up into a sitting position. "Do you think it'll happen tonight?" You paused what you were doing, not looking back at him but thinking on his question. "Maybe it won't happen until morning?" Still, you were quiet. "What if..." He sighed. "What if it is just a legend?" He looked over you, now putting his feet over the side of the hammock.
"...I don't know." You sighed, continuing to get dressed. "We'll be finding out by the end of tomorrow, I'm sure." You pulled your boots on, and then grabbed your hood, pulling it over you and then clipping it around your neck. "Promise me, Revali, that the kids will stay here?"
"Yes, I... I can promise you that. I want them to be as safe as they can be." He got out of the hammock before walking over to you as you made sure you were fully ready to go, bag zipped up and weapons ready. "But _____," He started, and you looked up at him. "You and I are a team. We always have been, and always will be, right?" He asked, and you nodded. "So let us be that team today. Let me come with you."
He held his wing out, smiling at you, and you gave him a sad smile back and reached your hand out, only to push his wing down. He lost his smile, and you reached up to hold his cheek, placing a gentle kiss on the other as you wrapped an arm around his neck. He could only wrap his wings around you, and he held you tight for as long as you let him.
"Don't be late to meet the other Champions at Hyrule Castle tonight." You whispered, finally pulling away, and he let out a quiet sigh and nodded. You walked over to your bed, leaning over to kiss Kai's head. "I love you Kai," You whispered before going to kiss Amalia's head as well. "And I love you Amalia."
Revali looked over his two sleeping children, not being able to watch as you finished getting yourself set with your stuff, bag over your shoulder and weapons on your back. You walked back over to him, placing a hand on his cheek to direct his vision back to you.
"I love you, Revali." You placed your other hand on his other cheek, and he pulled you in for one last kiss before you left, and you embraced it while you could. "I have to go." You whispered as you pulled away, and he nodded and brushed a few strands of your hair out of your face. "Get some rest, and be ready to leave for the castle before dusk. I'll see you tomorrow."
