Hyrule, a kingdom of glory, now in ruins. Once ruled by Queen Amirah and King Rhoam, taken over by a force of destruction. A once beautiful, thriving place was now in ruins everywhere. Only recently did the nature start growing again. The rivers started flowing without malice in them. The people of Hyrule felt confident enough to fix their homes, hoping they would never be destroyed again.
Standing anxiously on a grass hill, in the fields of Central Hyrule beyond the Castle, you took in a deep breath and prepared yourself for this. You were ready for this. Trying to convince yourself it was all just nerves.
"I'm ready to go." Link said, climbing down from the Central Tower. He wanted to get the last one before heading in to fight Ganon, and you weren't a bit hesitant to agree with him. You wanted to save Zelda as fast as possible, yes, but you still had to mentally prepare yourself for this fight.
"Me too." You weren't, but you would be. As the pair of you began to cross Hyrule Field, you noticed how many Guardians were scattered around the area. Doing their job, guarding Hyrule Castle. But they were protecting it from the wrong people.
You pulled out your shield as you approached one, hoping this would be a good opportunity to practice your fighting skills. It spotted you, and turned its head and began aiming it's laser at you. You had your shield out, ready to parry, and Link stayed close, but was fighting some Bokoblins nearby.
He trusted you'd be alright.
As it shot, you parried it perfectly. It was stunned for a moment after the deflected beam hit it, and you used this chance to slice off all it's legs, leaving it unable to move. It aimed at you again, shot, and got hit back by it's own laser. One more time of this and you killed it.
"Over here! There's more!" You and Link continued to hunt down and slayed all the guardians roaming around the field, making sure they wouldn't ever come back. Hopefully you wouldn't be met with a blood moon that night.
After a lot more guardian slaying, monster slaying, and fighting your way through Central Hyrule, you were getting close to the gates allowing you entrance to the lower castle town. Or, what was once the lower castletown anyways. You could see moblins waiting outside of the main entrance, ones you knew you'd have to take out.
You and Link easily took them out, as they were all only red ones, and you continued through the entrance into the town where ruined stone structures rested and monuments and statues were broken down and decayed. All that used to be in honor of Hyrule.
Heroes and knights that either did a great deed or risked their own lives for the sake of the kingdom were carved into stone, and you even saw Rhoam on one of those statues. One of the few that wasn't completely a rubble mess on the dead grass beneath them.
You explored the area some more, a bit of it done with Link and some apart, and after defeating more moblins and shooting down more flying guardians, you saw that you now had a clear path to the main gates. You crossed the bridge, preparing the slate to provide assistance to you.
Link had to shoot down the flying guardian that circled the large metal doors, and you used Magnesis to pull them open so the two of you could get inside. As you walked in, you noticed how quiet it had been. And it wasn't just the formally thriving castle either. Normally you and Link would be talking about your adventures, or the past, and even on occasion arguing. But that wasn't the case today.
Both of you were nervous. Having left Korok Forest just that morning, and now getting to the castle late in the afternoon, you were both too busy thinking about how everything would go after the battle. How the battle itself would go.
You weren't exactly worried that you'd get injured or do a bad job, it was that if you did fail, Zelda may not have the strength to recapture him and Ganon would be free to destroy Hyrule again. You couldn't let that happen after all you had been through up to this point. Not again.
