With great power, there must also come great responsibility. Peter Parker has the power to change the world. He has the power to stop crime from occurring. He has the power to make the world a better and safer place.

Peter Parker, to his friends and family, is a nerdy high-school boy who likes Star Wars movies and protecting the people he loves.

To Y/N Y/L/N, Ned Leeds and Michelle "MJ" Jones, Peter Parker is not only the nerdy high-school boy who likes Star Wars movies and protecting the people he loves. He is also the super-hero known as Spider-Man.

To the world, Spider-Man is a masked hero who is an ally with the Avengers. He's a protector of the innocent and the victims.

You'd think that as a hero, Spider-Man would never use his powers for his own personal gain, right? Wrong.

3 months ago, Peter Parker lost his aunt May. 3 months ago, Spider-Man lost his most valued supporter. After her death, Peter changed. This also meant that Spider-Man had changed.

Before she died, Peter would only use his powers if it was an emergency, or if someone (family/friend or not) was in danger. He'd put on his suit and save whoever was in danger. He'd go to bed as Peter and feel happy that he saved a life.

After she died, he used his powers as party tricks. He'd make people pay to see him use his fast reflexes. He'd make people pay to see him flip and dangle upside-down from the roof of any room he was in.

The people who saw the most change were his best friends Ned and MJ, and his girlfriend of 2 years, Y/N.

Instead of watching Star Wars movies and arguing about best sequels with the group on a Saturday night after homework, he'd ditch the group to go parading around as Spider-Man, using his fame as a way to make money.

Y/N
Your days got longer and harder to bare when you kept hearing about your boyfriend doing parlour tricks in the gym.

Of course, many girls would ask you about what's it's like dating a hero and you changed your answer every time. When girls would first ask you, you'd reply with "I love being with a guy who saves lives every day", but as time went on, and Peter changed for the worst, you'd reply with "just leave me alone. I don't want to talk about him".

Even Ned and MJ started distancing themselves from him. After a while, you stopped caring about Peter, and even thought about breaking up with him. Unfortunately, you cared enough that when two random girls screamed and told you that Peter was fighting Flash in the gym and using his powers, you dropped your food and ran after them.

You ran to the gym, having asked for someone to find MJ and Ned, seeing Peter web Flash to the floor before punching him over and over.

"PETER!" You and MJ screamed. With the help of MJ and Ned, you managed to pull Peter off Flash, dragging him off to an empty classroom.

Slapping his face 3 times, Peter backed away in pain, angry.

"What the fuck, Y/N?" He yelled sitting down at a desk.

"I was about to ask the same thing to you." You looked at him, Ned and MJ just as angry as you.

"Look. You don't want to be here. I don't want to be here. Let's just end this before one of us leaves here with a broken ego." Peter snickered before attempting to leave, MJ pre-emptively locking the classroom door.

"The only one leaving here with a broken ego is you." You didn't move.

"Wow. I'm so scared." Peter smirked.

"Listen here you egotistical dick. This isn't you. You are not Peter Parker. I don't know if you've been possessed, or someone is mind-controlling you, but you ARE NOT Peter Parker." You slapped him.

"How am I not Peter Parker? I am the Peter Parker that has been repressed and hidden for years." He looked at me, confused.

"The Peter Parker I know and loved wouldn't go around New York parading as Spider-Man to get money. The Peter Parker I know and loved wouldn't purposefully go around picking fights with every guy who dares to even look at him." You could feel the tears in your eyes.

"In my defence, Flash was asking for it. He was able to push me around and bully me for years. I was only getting payback." Peter tried to defend himself.

"Yes, he did bully you, but by getting payback, you became the one thing you despised, a bully. You became a bully, just like Flash." You could barely look at him.

"I was only defending myself. Isn't that what parents teach their kids, to defend themselves?" Peter asked.

"You were not defending yourself. You were only trying to prove that you were better than Flash because you have powers. Your ego got in the way." You informed him.

"You are way out of line Peter. If May was here, what would she say? I know that she'd berate you for acting the way you are!" You brought up the one thing Peter wouldn't be able to escape.

"Don't bring her into this!" Peter argued, getting angry.

"I am going to bring her into this, since I clearly can't make you see the error of your ways!" You argued back, sitting in front of him.

"Answer me honestly. If May was here, right now, what would she say to you? How would she react to all of your horrible behaviour?" You asked, holding Peter's hand. He didn't respond, making you more upset.

You watched as Ned and MJ left the room, making you think that they were just as fed up with Peter and his actions as you were.

"Until you either answer my questions, come to your senses and dial down your ego, or just stop acting like a complete jerk, don't bother talking to me, Ned or MJ. Don't bother considering us your friends. Don't even bother considering me, or calling me your girlfriend. We're over, Peter." You spoke, letting a tear slip.

He stood up, not responding to you or your ultimatum, leaving you alone in the room.

As you heard the classroom door shut, you closed your eyes and opened them again, unable to hold back the tears. You once loved Peter. He was your everything. He was your soulmate. But after May's death, he changed. He turned into someone you didn't recognise.

Leaving the room, you understood that from now on, you couldn't talk to Peter when you were sad, or when you were bored and wanted cuddles at 11:30 at night. You couldn't talk to him about every day problems or ask him how his day was or if he saw anything cool while on patrol as Spider-Man. You had to forget that he was Spider-Man. You had to forget that he was once the one person you had trusted yourself to love.
