The 4th of July was Peter's favourite day of the year. He loved the fireworks that went off at night. He enjoyed smell of hotdogs and steaks on a barbeque in his best friend's backyard.

Although, this 4th of July was different for Peter. Only a week prior, he had applied for the Stark Internship, hoping to beat out at least 14 other applicants for the position, most of whom went to his school. Even though it shouldn't have been a factor in the decision, Peter hoped that Mr Stark would pick him, because not only were his grades practically perfect, but he was Spider-Man and Mr Stark knew that. He also hoped that maybe the Stark Internship would not only be a part time job, but a cover that would allow him to be Spider-Man.

PETER
I had been up since 4 am, my phone not showing the notification that I had been desperately waiting for.

"Peter, the more you stare at your phone, the less likely you are to get the notification." May was right. Putting my phone down, I looked at Y/N, who had been eating the breakfast that wasn't for her.

Smiling, I enjoyed Y/N's company. She had been my best friend for years and she wanted me to get the position as much as I wanted to.

"I can't wait to see your face when you get rejected." Y/N joked.

"Ha ha. Very funny Y/N." I sighed, eyeing my phone.

"Y/N, don't forget to remind your mother that she's bringing over the sausages." May smiled.

The annual Y/L/N-Parker 4th of July Barbeque was legendary. It was rarely cancelled and everyone in the surrounding area knew about it. The barbeque would get at least 45-50 guests each year, considering the fact that the neighbourhood in which Y/N and I lived in was considered family.

"She never forgets, May. You give her the same job every year and every year she never fails you." Y/N smiled, giving May a hug.

May was basically Y/N's aunt as well. She acted like a loving aunt to Y/N and cared as much about her as Y/N's mother did.

"Y/N, can you and Peter please go back to your place and help your mother get the backyard ready?" May asked, Y/N nodding.

Heading over to Y/N's place, Y/N and I were immediately put to work, hanging up streamers and putting tables around the grassy areas.

Throughout the whole preparation, I didn't look at my phone once, figuring that I might not have gotten the position.

Finally, it was time for fireworks. Many guests had come over and the barbeque had been running for almost 4 hours. Sitting on the patio, I looked up in awe of the fireworks and the colours. I smiled at Y/N, who smiled back, her eyes going back to the fireworks that had everyone in awe.

Feeling a buzz in my pocket, I took my phone out and noticed an email.

"Oh my god! It's here!" I panicked, watching as Y/N drew her attention to me, her eyes widened.

Clicking on the email, my hands were shaky as my eyes drifted down the screen.

"So?! Yes or no?" Y/N was impatient.

"Yes!" I exclaimed, hugging Y/N with all my might.

"May!" I yelled, May running over to me.

"You got it!" She read the email, hugging me as tight as I had hugged Y/N.

"We're so proud of you Peter." Y/N smiled, kissing my cheek.
