He couldn't go through with it. Not when he knew that completing the task would cost Y/N her powers, or worse, her life. Unfortunately, this revelation was too late.

6 months ago, Y/N was in the right place, but at the wrong time. While Tony was creating Ultron, he needed to add a very dangerous substance to Ultron in order to make him work. While doing so, Y/N was hit with a blast that left her with the ability to control fire.

Y/N loved her power at first, but eventually, the power she once loved, turned her into a feared person. Her emotions where linked to her powers. When she was angry, she'd turn into a full body of fire. Most people at her school were known to make Y/N angry, so there were moments where she'd accidentally light a room on fire, or burn a text-book.

Because of her anger issues, Tony had been working on a way to reverse her powers. A way to end her suffering. Although Y/N loved to use her powers to fight crime, she also understood that her powers were causing more problems.

Y/N had been preparing for the procedure for a week. Every day, she worried that the procedure would hurt her. As the day got closer, she got more apprehensive, even trying to get Peter to convince Tony to not go through with it. Both Peter and Tony pushed against her, explaining why the procedure would benefit her and well as everyone else.

Y/N
The procedure was tomorrow. You felt sick to your stomach even thinking about it. As much as you trusted Tony, you had no idea if this would actually save you. Peter had been supporting you all week, but his support wasn't helping you.

"Peter. I don't think I can go through with the procedure. I trust Tony, I really do. But I don't trust this procedure. Tony has never done this before. What if it leaves me worse than I was before. What if it doesn't turn me back to normal?" You asked as Peter played with his pencil.

"Tony is a genius. He's even talked to Bruce about this. There is no way that Tony would put you through this procedure if it even seemed like it would negatively affect you." Peter failed to reassure you.

"Tony may be a genius, but that still doesn't mean that I trust the procedure." You rolled your eyes, trying to keep your mind off tomorrow.

For the next 10 hours, you had nightmares every time you fell asleep. You dreamed that you were halfway through the procedure and you died. You told Peter about the nightmares, and you asked that the procedure be cancelled. Unfortunately, Peter didn't cancel the procedure.

PETER
Y/N had asked me several times to cancel the procedure, but I wanted my girlfriend back, and to have her back, her powers needed to go.

The morning came. I got her dressed into a hospital gown and carried her to Tony's lab, placing her on the bed. I hoped that she would be ok. Tony had reassured me multiple times, but watching as she woke up, crying, demanding to be let go, I was unsure.

"Let me go. I can't do this. I don't want to do this!" I heard Y/N's cries for help. As much as I wanted to do something, I wanted her powers gone.

"Peter. Let me out! Don't let Tony take my powers away! Please!" Y/N cried as she watched Bruce and Tony get several syringes ready. One by one, each syringe was carefully injected into Y/N, her cries in pain silenced by her body being put into a chamber similar to what both Steve and Vision were in.

I watched as the liquid inside the syringes entered her body, her arms and legs beginning to shake. As I watched the chamber, I started regretting my decision to put her through the procedure. But I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't reverse what was already happening. Something didn't seem right. She wasn't screaming. She wasn't crying. She didn't even look like she was breathing.

"Tony...something's wrong. She doesn't look like she's breathing..." I panicked.

"Shit." Tony swore as he powered off the chamber, both Bruce and Tony running over.

"Tony...what's wrong! She's breathing...right? Please tell me she's breathing?!" I panicked, trying not to cry as Bruce and Tony removed her from the chamber.

Bringing her back to the bench, Tony and Bruce quickly started CPR, knowing that I'd kill them both if they didn't.

"I'm sorry kid. We tried." Tony hugged me as I cried, knowing that my girlfriend was dead. The procedure killed her and it was too late to go back. She was lost forever.
