Christina stood outside the hospital with a coffee in her hand watching the workmen put up the new sign. 'Seattle Grace Mercy west' she squeezed her cup a bit tighter, barely dodging a doctor in orange scrubs running past her.

When you get sick, it starts out with a single bacteria. One lone nasty intruder. Pretty soon the intruder duplicates. Becomes two.

Alex watched a doctor in orange scrubs hold the elevator doors for another guy in orange scrubs. His scowl deepens.

Then those two become four. And those four become eight.

Blake sat in the seat beside Meredith's bed, when four doctors in orange scrubs walked in. She lifted her head from her medical journal, and stared at the four doctors with a pensive look.

Then, before your body knows it, it's under attack.

•••••••••

Meredith pursed her lips, she looked to her wife who looked disinterested in the entire conversation, in fact she was staring brows furrowed at her cell phone. "they're locusts, comfortable locus , feeding on our surgeries." She muttered "Blake baby, are you listening to me?" She asked exasperatedly.

Blake hummed "Yes, locusts, they're locusts." She said not lifting her eyes from her phone. She shook her head and passed it to Meredith.

"Look at that." She muttered

Meredith took the phone and read through the email, it was from the chief of surgery of Columbia "I thought you turned them down."

Blake hummed "I did, but apparently they really want me and now have offered more than what a senior resident should be earning." She chuckled dryly "That and a chance to start a new clinical trial." She chewed her lip.

Meredith stared at her wife "Do they know you signed an NDA ?"

Blake pursed her lips "I haven't, not yet anyway. Neither has Shepard. And I won't until he does. But he's been putting it off for whatever reason..—" before she could continue Alex, Christina and lexie walked in.

Meredith sighed "You're not thinking of taking it?" She asked referring to the offer.

Blake shook her head in the negative "No, I'm not. I'm just saying it's nice to be wanted." She shrugged "Barely even started and they trying to steal me away.It feels good."

Meredith pursed her lips , she knew that tone, she couldn't deny it, the offer was tempting, more than tempting. As residents they barely made 30 grand a year. But that wasn't really a problem , Blake was wealthy and she had her own trust fund still. Financially they were more than okay. But having Columbia offer her a senior residents wage, including a chance for a new clinical trial?

"What are you guys talking about?" Alex asked nibbling on his chips staring at the couple.

Blake shrugged "Meredith has likened our new colleagues to locusts." She said ignoring Meredith confused look.

Christina huffed "it's rude. There should be at least a couple of days where they act like guests before they put their feet up on the coffee table. And what's with the orange scrubs? What, ours aren't good enough for 'em?"

Blake smiled lightly "They ran out Yang, they're on back order."

Meredith hummed "Yep that's what I've learned, and that they'll be here in a week. That's what Randal said"

Christina rolled her eyes "Why order new ones? We can just give them ours."

Alex scoffed "We're not gonna be replaced by anybody."
