Patients who undergo an amputation often feel sensation where the missing limb was.. As if it's still there. The syndrome is called "Phantom limb."
It's as if the body can't accept that a terrible trauma has occurred. The mind is trying to make the body complete again.
Blake walked up to Derek "I see you're finally operating on Jimmy." Blake said and glanced at her boss "Want me to tag in?"
Derek shook his head "I'll be fine, you've got your own cases to deal with. I'm fine, I'm ready."
Blake hummed "Didn't say you weren't, all I'm saying it's a long and difficult surgery. A tough one to start off with."
Derek frowned "Did Callie put you up to this?"
Blake looked behind her "Ah yeah she did, she also told me to make sure to mention that she poured her blood, sweat and tears into your hand. That it's taken so much of her time that she worries and is concerned." She said monotonously "See that's exactly what she wrote down and she told me to say it word for word but with much more emotion."
Derek laughed "You were as emotional as a robot, no offense."
Blake hummed "None taken, it's the reason I sucked as Juliet in the schools play. No emotion." She paused "I'm not concerned, I mean if you suck, just know you've got the most talented fellow to follow up, but uh don't suck because you know jimmy is a swell guy. But if you're ready , you're ready."
Derek smiled "Rebecca moved in and I'm thinking of getting a ring."
Blake blinked "Is that your way of telling me to shut up? Okay, fine , get a nice ring, she's an accountant she'll know how many paychecks you spent on it." She chirped and walked off to join Meredith and the rest of the doctors.
"So did you take the case?" Callie asked joining her and Meredith.
"Nope, he'll be fine. I have a few cases anyway." Blake shrugged off "If he wasn't ready, he wouldn't be operating he has a big ego but not bigger than endangering a life because he wants to prove something." She comforted and wrapped her arm around Meredith's waist.
"And how is my gorgeous wife?"
Meredith smiled softly "Feeling bloated."
Blake hummed "Well you don't look it. In fact you look like god took all the time in the world to craft the beauty that is Meredith Carmichael-Grey."
Meredith laughed "Shut up you cheese ball."
Blake smirked "Of course." She turned and listened to hunts speech
"Okay, folks. Let's just start. As many of you know, Seattle Grace Mercy West has suffered a financial setback. The administration is working hard to keep the impact of that setback as small as possible. To that end, we're gonna have to initiate some cost-cutting measures. The board has hired a physician advisor to help."
Most of the doctors furrowed their brows "what's a physician advisor ?" Arizona asked
"Well, she consults on maximizing efficiency, streamlining processes, assessing where we can trim our budgets." Owen explained.
Blake licked her lips "Who to fire and when to fire them?" She asked dryly
Owen clenched his jaw, probably due to frustration "She's here to advise and to help. I was hoping to introduce her in person, but she seems to be late."
Cristina snorted "On her first day? Not very efficient."
Owen ignored the interruptions and carried on "You can expect to see her in the halls, in your labs, in the O.R."
