Don't fall in love with me
if you can't handle the storm.
The highs that I have are rarer
than the downs that crush me.
You came to me on the altar
as you heard me pray so earnestly
being so amazed by my faith
in someone that I can't see in person
yet you thought you understood
the way it all works in His hands.
Don't fall in love with me
if you can't hold me through fire.
The pain that I feel is stronger
than the joy that overflows me.
You said I was a gift from God
one that keeps on giving
but I didn't think you know
the role it'd made me play
in the world that worships
fame and wealth over His love.
Don't fall in love with me
if you can't listen to the screams.
The rage that I have is louder
than the relief that overcomes me.
You kept taking me on dates
hoping that what we had
was bound to His promises
that our love story was written
in the stars that He put out
on crispy winter nights.
Don't fall in love with me
if you can't handle the tornado.
The good that I see is lesser
than the bad that agonizes me.
You didn't let me go in my worst
saying that we weren't the couple
who lived in their better days only
to break up when it gets hard
that God was the painter of it all
and we were the colours He chose.
