Janis POV

The music vibrated the pool house as I paced back and forth across the living room.

It was the third week of Jam Night that I was missing because of that stupid musician that insisted on shadowing Rocky.

Cooper sat up and watched me.

"The thing is, Cooper, I want to see him again, but I know that's not a good idea. He's bad for me, Cooper. He's going to hurt me," I told the dog. "But I need to get out of here. I can't keep sitting here knowing he's there. It's driving me crazy!"

And I did know he was there.

I could feel it.

Cooper stood up and disappeared around the corner.

"Great! Now even my dog doesn't want to hear it anymore!"

I flopped down on the couch with a heavy sigh and closed my eyes.

I interrogated Jamey after the first Jam Night I missed and was disappointed that Wesley never asked about me.

Jamey could have been more forthcoming with info the second week, especially when I asked him what Wesley was wearing.

He said if I wanted to know, then I should have come.

He probably wouldn't say anything to me tomorrow, but Ross might.

Joslyn didn't go that first week, either.

I didn't ask her anything the second week because I didn't want her bugging me about Wesley.

That's precisely what Joslyn would do.

Besides, she seemed more preoccupied with herself than usual now that she and Mike had broken up.

I felt something heavy drop on my lap.

Lifting my head up, I found Cooper staring at me, and he'd dropped his leash in my lap.

I smiled.

"Okay, buddy, thanks for saving me."

I stood up, went to my room, and slipped on my tennis shoes.

"Are you ready?"

Cooper's tail went crazy.

I hooked the leash on his collar, and he glanced up at me.

"I know, buddy, but it's Jam Night, and I don't need you getting startled and running off."

I scratched his ear and turned the knob pulling the door open. I looked up and found Wesley standing right in front of me.

Cooper started to bark.

"You have a dog?" Wesley asked.

"Yes. Cooper, quiet!"

Cooper stopped barking and sat by my feet, leaning protectively against my legs.

"That was impressive," Wesley said.

"He's a smart boy, aren't you, Coop?"

Cooper barked and wagged his tail.

Wesley chuckled, which was the sweetest sound I'd heard all day.

No, I can't think like that.

I cleared my throat, hoping my head would clear too.

"What are you doing here, Wesley?"

"I wanted to see you," he replied.

"How'd you know I lived here?"

"Rocky may have let it slip," he admitted.
