Wesley's POV
The Uber pulled into Riker's driveway. Taking a deep breath, I slammed the door shut and walked to the door.
I'd been home for two days. Every time I called Janis, it went straight to voicemail. I needed to return her car and see her. I stalked Ross' backdoor and finally caught up with Ross this morning.
"What's going on?" I asked him.
Ross sighed. "Cooper died."
Oh shit. No wonder Janis wasn't answering her phone.
"Is Janis okay?"
Ross shook his head.
"No, she has been in bed for three days now. She's not talking to anyone. Riker's worried. He thinks maybe she had a psychotic break. He doesn't know if he should let her be or admit her to the hospital."
"Can I do anything?" I asked.
Ross shook his head. "Riker didn't even want me to tell you. He said it's a family matter. The family is meeting there today to help him decide what to do with her."
"Will you let me know how she is?"
"She's not good, Wesley," Ross said. "I have to go. If you want, I can take Janis' car over and catch a ride home with someone else."
"Okay," I said and handed him the keys.
"Tell her I'm thinking about her," I said.
Ross nodded as he jumped in the car and left.
Tell her I'm thinking about her? I thought. I should tell her myself.
I went to the pool house and sat down on the couch.
It was quiet.
Too quiet.
Fuck it, I'm going to see her.
I scheduled an Uber.
Standing at Riker's front door now, I didn't know if he'd let me see her or if she'd even want me, but I had to try.
I knocked on the door.
A few seconds later, Riker pulled it open.
"Great!" He muttered. "What do you want, Wesley?"
"I want to see Janis," I said.
"No," he said.
I stared at him.
"She doesn't feel well, and the last person she needs right now is you," He snapped.
He started to shut the door.
I put my foot out, stopping the door. "I'm not taking no for an answer."
Riker glared at me. "She's sleeping!"
"Let him in, man. Maybe he can get through to her," Rocky said.
"Mind your own business," Riker snapped.
"Rocky's right, you should let him in," Jamey said.
"Why? So he can leave her again? Janis doesn't need that," Riker said.
"Look, man, I've made mistakes," I started. "but I love Janis!"
"That's why you left her?" Riker asked.
"Did you love Jessie? What about your kids?" I asked.
Riker glared at me.
"You left them all the time. The only difference between you and me is I am not going anywhere this time!"
