Chapter 69 - One Or The Other

Jamey's POV

I went back and picked Janis up three days later.

"How was the service?" I asked.

"It was nice and small," she said.

"How are Wesley and his brother?"

"They are okay, I think," Janis said. "We had sex."

"The three of you?" I asked.

"No!" Janis exclaimed. "Wesley and me."

"Oh... how was it?"

"Oh my god, Jamey, it was better than I remembered," Janis said.

I smiled. "I like Wesley."

Janis smiled.

"What does this mean?" I asked.

Janis shrugged.

"What about Sean?" I asked.

Janis looked out the window. "Sean broke up with me."

"Oh, Janis, I'm sorry. I didn't know!"

"I didn't tell anyone. I didn't want Wesley to get hopeful."

"So you had sex with him?"

She stared at me. "That was different. His mom just died."

I didn't say anything.

"Do you think I'm sending mixed messages?"

I shrugged.

"Do you think he thinks it means more than just sex?"

"Does it?"

"I don't know!" Janis exclaimed. "I don't want to talk about this anymore."

"Okay," I said.

"How are the wedding plans coming along?"

"Good, I think all that's left is getting married!"

"I'm so happy for you, Jamey. I really like Stephanie."

"She is great," I agreed.

Janis laughed.

"I saw Christopher," I blurted out.

"What?"

"He wrote me a letter, so I went and saw him."

"How'd that go?"

"Okay, he seems different," I said.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah," I said.

"He may get out soon."

"Oh boy," Janis said.

"He's been sober, and he's changed," I said.

"Do you think he'll come around?"

"I want him to come to the wedding," I said.

"How does Stephanie feel about that?"

I don't know. I have yet to mention it. Stephanie doesn't even know I've been seeing him."

"Why haven't you told her?"

"It never came up," I said.

"Jamey, you have to tell her," Janis said.

"I know, I will," I said. "I don't want to talk about this anymore."

"How's grandma and grandpa doing?" Janis asked.

"Good, grandma had hip surgery. She's in pain but at home and moving around slowly. Ross, Rocky, and Ryland came home yesterday. Rydel and Tristan are coming home tomorrow, and Dad will be home soon."
