Janis POV
Cooper dropped the ball in my lap.
"You crazy dog, this is the last time."
Cooper sat down and wagged his tag. I picked up the ball and threw it.
Cooper went running after it.
I laughed.
Cooper was the best dog ever.
He'd helped me out so much through the years. Now he was just a pet. I didn't need to take him everywhere with me.
He liked Ross' house. It took him a little bit to get used to it, but Ross' yard was huge, and Cooper could run around all the time, and he did.
I looked at the computer sitting on the patio table.
Sighing, I reread what I wrote.
I was writing the paper for Professor Fox's class. I thought it would be easy, but it wasn't.
This was a load of crap. Professor Fox's teaching license should be reviewed. I couldn't see any true love in history. And if they did end up together, someone was usually murdered.
Just like mom.
I couldn't write this paper.
"What are you working on?"
I looked up and saw Ross standing in front of me. His jeans were baggy, and his white tee shirt was wrinkled.
I bet he slept in it, I thought with a smile.
I don't have much room to talk. I sat in red plaid flannel pajama pants and a black tank top at the table.
Thankful for the interruption, I shut the computer.
"I have this paper due, and I'm having a hard time writing it," I said.
"What's it on?" Ross asked, setting a cup of steamy coffee in front of me.
"True love and all that garbage."
Ross clicked his tongue.
I picked up my mug and took a sip of coffee. It was delicious!
"Are you coming to Jam Night tonight?" Ross asked.
"Yeah, I planned on it," I said.
He nodded.
"Riker will be there," He said.
"Isn't he always?" I replied.
"You'll be civil?"
"Aren't I always?"
Ross' head dipped to the side, and his eyebrow shot up.
"I get into it with Riker once, and you hold it against me?"
"Janis, you threw your drink in his face and called him a murderer," He pointed out.
"If the shoe fits..."
Ross stared at me.
"I'm sorry, Ross, I can't stand the sight of him. I think I've been nice since then," I argued.
"You mean by not talking to him at all?"
"Sometimes it's easier not to say anything."
"He is your father!"
I groaned.
"Who killed my mother," I mumbled.
"Look, kid, I know you have an opinion about this, but you don't know what you are talking about. I was there. I watched them fall in love..."
