Janis POV

I woke up feeling reckless.

It took me a long time to fall asleep.

I couldn't stop thinking about Wesley and our evening together.

Part of me wanted to call and take him up on his offer for Friday night, and the other part wanted to run away fast and not look back.

I let Cooper out as I got ready for school.

I pulled on jeans and slipped Wesley's flannel on too.

It was my easy day, one class, and I'd been done before noon.

Grabbing my phone and bag, I let Cooper in and went to my car.

Once out on the road, I grabbed my phone and turned it on, careful not to take my eyes off it.

I found who I was looking for quickly and hit his name.

"Janis? Is everything okay?" Riker asked, panic in his voice.

I laughed.

"Good morning! And yes, everything is okay."

"Oh," Riker sounded confused.

I couldn't blame him.

Since my mom died, I have never spoken to or called him.

"What do you have planned for today?" I asked cheerfully.

"Um... nothing," he answered.

"Would you like to meet me for lunch?" I asked.

"This is Janis?" Riker asked, shocked.

"Yes, silly," I said, getting a little annoyed.

"Sure, I'll meet you for lunch... and you are sure everything is okay?"

"Yes," I reassured him.

We made plans to meet at a restaurant before we hung up.

My morning went well. My classes flew by.

I found myself whistling on the way to my car.

This was crazy!

I still need to sit down and analyze my evening with Wesley.

When I did, I would find a million things I should have said or done differently.

But right now, I was feeling super good about the whole thing and wanted it to continue for a little longer.

On my way to the restaurant, I called Jamey.

Jamey picked up after two rings.

"This is insane, Janis! I am not going to tell you about last night. Actually, there's nothing to tell. Wesley arrived at eight, stayed for an hour, and then left for the night."

"Good morning, little brother! How are you?" I said.

"Janis?" Jamey asked, shocked.

I laughed. "Yes, how are you doing today?"

"I'm okay. How are you?" He asked.

"I am fan-fucking-tastic! I got up on time. It's a beautiful day, my class was awesome, and now I'm on my way to meet Riker for lunch," I exclaimed.

"Wait, Janis, is this really you?" Jamey asked.

"Why do people keep asking me that? Yes, it's me," I reassured him.

"Ohhhkaaay..."

"Stop acting so shocked. I'm allowed to be in a good mood," I said.

"The question is, why are you in a good mood?"
