Janis' POV

I let myself into the pool house and was greeted by a delighted Cooper.

I tried to pet him, but he kept running back and forth with his toy in his mouth, making these adorable noises he always made when I came home.

"Hey boy, how was your walk?"

Cooper sat down and let me scratch his head.

Satisfied that he was happy, I hugged my dog before standing up.

I changed my clothes, happy to take these pants and suit jacket off and get these damn heels off my feet.

If I got the job, I wouldn't have to dress like this all the time, but I wanted to make a good impression.

I went to the fridge and found a note taped to the front of it.

"Janis,

I took Cooper for a walk, but he stopped half away and wouldn't go any further. So we had to turn around and come back. I know you nailed the interview, and can you tell me all about it later when we meet for dinner? I'll text you the details. A buddy of mine called me, and I went to meet him about a possible gig.

Wes"

A possible gig? This was huge.

Wesley has been looking for a gig since he came back to L.A. Coming up with nothing, he talked to Jamey about working at the restaurant with him.

I hoped it went well and I couldn't wait to hear all about it.

I pulled the fridge door open and pulled out some leftover eggplant parmesan. I heated it up and sat down to eat.

Feeling restless after lunch, I grabbed Cooper's leash, and we jumped in the car and went to the beach.

I leashed Cooper up, and we walked in the sand, watching people. A handful of people littered the sand. The beach usually wasn't that busy in the middle of the week.

It was a beautiful day, hot outside.

The colder weather would be here before we knew it.

I stopped in a secluded spot on the sand and pulled a blanket from my bag. Cooper watched as I spread it out under an umbrella.

I sat down on the warm sand.

Pulling out my book, Cooper circled and lay beside my legs.

I started to read.

I didn't know how much time had passed when my phone rang.

I dug in my bag, finding my phone.

I smiled as Wesley's name crossed the display.

"Hello?"

"Hey! How are you?"

"I'm okay. How are you?"

"Good, how'd the interview go? No, don't tell me yet. Where are you? I'll meet you, and we can grab something to eat."

"I'm at the beach..."

"In a bathing suit?"

"No," I laughed. "Cooper and I are sitting under an umbrella."

"I've never seen you in a bathing suit," Wesley commented, causing my stomach to swarm with butterflies.

"We should do something about that... I can meet you there. Do you want me to pick something up to eat?"

"If you want to, I can meet you back at the pool house and drop off Cooper. Then, we can go out," I said.
