Stephanie's POV
I sucked down the rest of my Nitrobrew Iced Coffee.
I needed the caffeine, I'd been up since Sunday morning, and now it was Monday, and I had no idea where Jamey was.
He left me a disturbing message Saturday night that I didn't get until after we left the restaurant because it was a dead zone in there, and no one could use their phones.
I went straight to Jamey's apartment, thankful he gave me an extra key months ago, and waited for him to come home.
He never came home.
I tried calling his cell, and it went straight to voicemail which meant the battery died or...
I didn't want to think about the or.
Sunday dragged on.
I saw every minute on the clock.
I didn't know what to do.
There was no one for me to call.
I texted Mary at 7:30 on Monday morning and asked her if she needed a ride to class.
We had the same schedule on Mondays.
I planned on drilling her about her brother.
I knew Jamey was with Chris last, and it didn't go well.
I needed to tell someone about Jamey's message, but I didn't know who.
No one knew about us.
How was I supposed to explain that?
I pulled into Mary's driveway, full of cars, but none were Jamey's or Christoper's.
"Hi," Mary said, cheerfully climbing into the car.
"Sorry it took so long. My Uncle Tristan is here because my mom is watching Molly while Uncle Riker goes to court with Joslyn."
That's it.
Jamey and I ran into Tristan and Rydel not too long ago. They knew about us.
I could tell Tristan.
"Uncle Tristan is climbing the walls, and it's so cute because Molly follows him in her walker as he paces back and forth. Uncle Tristan goes to turn around, and almost trips over Molly, and Molly laughs as Uncle Tristan swears up a storm," Mary said.
"Uncle Tristan is beside himself. He keeps mumbling about getting a hold of the guy that took Joslyn from the bar that night and what he'd like to do to him. It's scary! I mean, the guy that was with Jos is no good, but if Uncle Tristan ever finds him." Mary shook her head. "I feel sorry for him!"
Maybe Tristan wasn't the guy I wanted to tell this to.
After all, Christopher was his nephew.
I needed to get a hold of Rydel, and I could still do that by talking to Tristan.
"I need to use the bathroom," I blurted out.
"Aw, Steph, if we go back in there, we will never get out!" Mary complained.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll make it to school," I lied.
"Fine," Mary said.
We got out of the car and went inside.
Mary's mother was sitting at the table holding the baby.
"Hi, Stephanie," Mrs. Stewart said.
"Hello, Mrs. Stewart. How are you?" I asked.
