Janis' POV
I stood at the dresser, studying the pregnancy box. Who knew there were so many to choose from? I stood in that aisle for ten minutes trying to figure out which test would be the best one to purchase for Stephanie.
Finally, I picked the plus sign one. I had to return to Wesley's quickly because he was just behind me. We drove separately to Jam Night in case I wanted to leave earlier than he did. Sometimes it happened. He got caught up in the music and the atmosphere. By the time he was ready, I was asleep at a table.
I could always crash in the pool house, but then Wesley and I wouldn't spend the night together, and I liked waking up with him next to me in the morning.
If I decided not to go to Colorado, it would be long before we woke up together again.
I wouldn't worry about that right now.
"Hey Janis, you're still awake," Wesley said, entering the bedroom.
I was so surprised I didn't hear him come in that I quickly hid the test behind my back.
"Wes, I didn't hear you come in," I admitted.
A funny look spread across his face. "You look like a little kid caught eating cookies. What's up?"
"Nothing," I lied quickly.
Wesley's head dropped to the side. "Whatcha got there?"
He nodded at me.
"Nothing," I lied again.
"Janis," Wesley started.
The problem with lying is I am horrible at it. I felt like Wesley could see right through me and knew I was holding a pregnant test.
Wesley moved towards me, and I took a step back, hitting my butt on the dresser. I jumped.
Wesley laughed. "What's going on?"
"Nothing," I repeated, rolling my eyes. Why can't I think of something else to say?
"Janis, you are a horrible liar!"
Nervously, I laughed.
Wesley grabbed my hips, pulling me to him. I tried to bury the box back in my purse, and it fumbled in my fingers and fell to the floor.
"What's that?" Wesley asked, letting me go.
I scrambled to grab his hands. "It's nothing, I..."
Wesley beat me to the box, picked it up, and turned it over in his hands.
"Wes..."
"A pregnancy test? Are you...?" He stared at me.
"Wes, it's not what you think," I started.
"Oh my god! You're pregnant," he exclaimed, taking the box and sitting on the bed. "This is great!"
I stared at him.
"I mean, I think it's great! I always wanted children," he looked at me. "I didn't even know you thought you might be... how late are you? It doesn't matter!" Wesley laughed. "Are you going to take it?"
"Not now," I stammered.
"Why not?" He asked.
"Because it's best if you do it in the morning," I said.
"It is morning," Wesley pointed out. "Go take it."
"Wesley, I think..."
"Please, Janis? I won't be able to sleep," he said.
