Janis' POV

"Wh... what about me?" I asked Joslyn.

"Nothing major. I promise I didn't share any deep dark embarrassing secrets," Joslyn said.

"Jos, I swear to god if you..."

"What?" Joslyn asked.

"Nothing," I said quickly.

Joslyn didn't know how much I liked Wesley, and I wouldn't tell her.

I didn't want her to know. She'd stick her big nose into it and ruin it.

I turned and went back outside.

My breath caught in my throat as I watched Wesley talk to Aunt Rydel.

He was so handsome.

His face lit up as he talked, his hands moving adamantly.

He looked up and saw me.

Slowly, I started towards them.

"Hey, Janis," Aunt Rydel said.

"Hey. Hi, Wesley," I said.

I didn't want to be rude.

"Janis," he said and nodded. "How are you?"

"Good," I said.

Rydel looked from Wesley to me and back again.

"Oh! This is..."

I shot her a dirty look.

After Aunt Rydel and Joslyn left for the bakery, I started to feel anxious.

I didn't know what to do with myself.

I didn't want to be outside because I would gawk at Wesley, and I didn't want to be inside because Grandma and Aunt Sabrina would start questioning me.

So, I went and sat on the front porch. When Aunt Rydel returned from the bakery with Joslyn, she talked with me.

Aunt Rydel knew I was upset, but she didn't know why.

I told her how I went out with someone, and I embarrassed myself and wasn't sure how to return from it.

Aunt Rydel told me to be myself. She said if this guy liked me, he probably didn't find it as embarrassing as I did.

She made me feel so much better about it.

Having a little more confidence, I felt good until I went into the backyard and saw Wesley and Joslyn chit-chatting.

"Oh... never mind me! I forgot... my drink," Aunt Rydel stood up. "Do you two need anything?"

I shook my head no.

"No thanks, Rydel. Thanks for chatting with me," he said.

"Anytime," Aunt Rydel said.

I sat down and picked up my food.

I could feel Wesley staring at me.

I popped a chip into my mouth.

"I'm going to get something to eat," Wesley said.

I nodded.

Things were weird between us. I had a feeling they were going to get weirder.

Jamey and Chris came over to the table laughing.

"What's so funny?" I asked.

"Chris is drunk," Jamey started.

"And Jamey isn't that far behind me," Chris chimed.
