Janis' POV
"Holy shit!" I muttered, climbing into Uncle Zack's car.
"Never a dull moment, huh?" he teased.
After Stephanie stormed out of Uncle Zack's and Aunt Sabrina's dining room, Jamey excused himself and left.
Uncle Zack offered to drive me home.
"Nope," I said.
"Is Aunt Sabrina going to be okay?" I asked.
She looked so upset after Jamey and Stephanie left.
"Yeah, she's a trooper. She'll bounce back," Uncle Zack explained. "She doesn't like drama, and my family is full of it! We always have been."
I nodded.
"It doesn't help that she feels like a failure as a mother when it comes to Chris."
I looked at him.
"I mean, she blames herself. Mothers do that. I did it for a little bit. Maybe if we would have or wouldn't have, insert whatever here, Chris would have turned out differently," Uncle Zack said.
"It's not your fault how Christopher turned out," I said.
"I know," he said. "but as a parent, you can't help but take on your kids' actions. It'll be okay, Janis."
"Has he really changed?" I asked.
"Yes," Uncle Zack replied without missing a beat. "He has. I see Chris, and it's like meeting a completely different person. He is remorseful and sorry for what he did, and he knows there are things that he did that had permanent consequences. He'll have to live with those the rest of his life," Uncle Zack said.
"Maybe I should go see him," I said.
"He'd like that," he said. "but no pressure. Chris did shitty things to your sister, I understand if you can't forgive him for that."
"I don't blame Chris for Joslyn's death. She had never held her opinions to herself before. She could have told him no at any point, but she didn't. It wasn't all Christopher's fault. Joslyn played a part, too," I said.
Uncle Zack nodded.
"Here you are, kiddo," He pulled up in front of Riker's house.
"Thanks, Uncle Zack," I said, opening the door and getting out.
"Your dad should be home tomorrow, but if you need anything, call us," he said.
"I will," I said.
"Thanks for dinner."
I went inside.
Surprised Copper didn't greet me at the door.
"Cooper!" I called and sat down on the couch.
What a night.
I hope Jamey and Stephanie work things out. I've never seen her so angry before. And Jamey was just as livid.
I know Jamey and Chris were close, but for him to put his foot down after everything that happened surprised me.
Wesley.
I smiled at the thought of him.
I was surprised when he called me tonight.
I thought he'd wait to call me after he returned to LA.
It was nice to talk to him and hear his voice. I could picture him sitting outside at his mom's house, smiling as we spoke.
The butterflies swarmed my stomach.
