"Dad, where are we going?" A 14 year old Y/n asked, it was summer break and she haf just finished her 8th grade year at middle school.

"Just....just to get some lunch." Jim answered hesitantly "I wanted to spend some time together, now that I've got a week off." He said.

Y/n smiled "Okay." She said enthusiastically.

It had been two years since Sarah died, and a year since Diane left. Things had been hard for both Jim, and for Y/n. Both of them had emotional scars, that might not ever heal. Since Diane had left and Sarah had died, Jim became distant and cold to his daughter. He was angry not at her, but at himself.

Things had just started to get better for Jim, especially with him becoming recently becoming Chief of police. Jim loved his daughter more than anything, and now that she was all he had left. He'd do anything for her.

"So, do you wanna talk about it?" Jim asked hesitantly as they pulled into the parking lot of Benny's.

Y/n tensed up and looked down "I don't know what you're talking about." She mumbled, quickly getting out of the car.

Jim watched his daughter rush into the restaurant, a frown on his face. About a week ago, Y/n's teacher had called Jim at the station, and told him about how her and Steve Harrington had been arguing very loudly in the halls. Sighing Jim got out of the car, and followed his daughter inside.

"Afternoon Benny." Jim greeted the familiar man.

Benny gave a wave "Afternoon, Jim!" He greeted warmly "I've already got your usual started."

Jim gave the man a nod, making his way over to the booth his daughter sat at. Jim slid in the seat across from her, Y/n was just staring out the window looking off into space.

"Y/n?" Jim asked gently "What happened with Steve Harrington?" He asked.

Y/n looked at her dad "Nothing." She lied "It doesn't matter anyway."

Jim ran a hand down his face "Y/n, please just tell me what happened." He asked again, "I got a call from the school, and they told me whats been happening."

"Dad, it's the summer now." Y/n said looking down at her hands, "It doesn't matter."

Jim sighed "Okay." He mumbled, he didn't know parenting alone could be so hard. He felt so helpless.

Everything felt so hard to Y/n, she had no motivation to do anything. 2 more months had gone by. She tried job hunting again but whenever people around town saw her, it was just sympathetic and sorry looks. Everytime someone gave Y/n that look she wanted to scream, it was all she ever got. She didn't want to be reminded over and over, that her dad is gone, that he's dead.
