A oneshot for BF_1352
Esther's POV
I tried my hardest to stay awake till midnight but I failed. I remember that it was close to midnight, the clock was ticking and read 11:50 pm. I wanted to see it happen in action... I wanted to see my hair change color in real-time. But I guess it can't be helped. I threw the blankets off of me and sat up. I jump out of bed and run to my bathroom. I flipped on the lights and then gasped. A strand of my short black hair was now a bright purple. Awesome!! It came! Oh, I wonder what my power will be! I hope it'll be as cool as Elliot's and Eliza's.
I suppose that I should explain a few things. There's a strange phenomenon that happens in our family, on our mom's side. Our mom has special powers and special hair to go with it, and since Mom has powers, we've gotten powers and magic hair passed down to us. You see, The roots of our hair are the color we were born with, but the rest of our hair is a completely different color. It doesn't appear until we are 16 when a single strand of our hair turns a different color.
The change happens on the day of our sixteenth birthday the second the clock reaches midnight. After that, the color slowly spreads to other strands, until we are 26, with our whole head of hair that color. We can't cut it out or dye the hair, it just flares up or regains color. Our powers show through our colored hair glowing. We didn't understand what was happening until our mother explained it to us. Every five years, since there's a five-year age gap between us, one of us gets powers and new colored hair! I don't know what my power is yet, but Elliot and Eliza have gotten their powers! Elliot can tell when people are lying to him, which I think he uses to his advantage way too much, and Eliza can sense the emotions of the people around her, knowing what they're feeling. They've all got pretty colors for their hair. Elliot has bluish indigo hair, Eliza has green hair, I have purple hair apparently, and Mom has a mixture of all of our colors and her own pretty red. Let's just say that our Dad is pretty jealous.
I'm so excited! I leave my bedroom and dash down the stairs. I heard hushed whispers in the kitchen and I walked towards the kitchen. I was completely taken aback by the sight of the kitchen. There was a banner hung across the ceiling reading, 'Happy Birthday Esther!'. Aww, how sweet. There was also a cake on the table with sixteen candles lit on the kitchen island and presents on the dining room table. My family wasn't there but they soon stood up from behind the island, smiling at me and shouting "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!" in sync as they noticed me. I now have a smile on my face from ear to ear.
"Aww, thanks so much! It makes me feel so happy for you guys to do this for me!" I say.
"We're having your birthday cake for breakfast!" Elliot beams.
"We love you, of course, we'd celebrate you, Esther, my dear!" My father replies.
"Ooh, I see that you've got your first strand of color!" My mother exclaims.
"Do you know what your power is yet?" Eliza questions.
"No... I haven't seen or felt anything odd yet." I answer.
"Surely you haven't tried anything yet to find out?" Mom queries.
I shake my head. Elliot's blue strands of hair started to glow, looking at me.
"Esther isn't lying, she has no idea what her power is." Elliot hums.
"Why don't you just focus on celebrating your birthday instead of fretting about what power you might receive?" A voice spoke from behind me.
I turn around and see my grandmother Edna standing there, smiling sweetly at me. I feel my blood run ice cold. The only thing wrong with my grandma Edna being here is that she is dead. She died ten years ago! What is she doing here?! I feel a hand on my shoulder and I notice my father standing next to me.
