A oneshot for

Amèlie's POV

"Did you bring all of the supplies?" I ask Sophia as she walks through the front door.

"Yeah! It's all in the trunk of my mom's car." She hums.

"Does your Mom need help with it?" I query.

"The easels are kind of awkward and heavy, so I think we should help her." Sophia reasons.

Sophia carries the bucket of tubes of paint to the backyard. Mom and Dad let the two of us paint together but we have to do it outside. Paint is hard to get out of things so I understand the reasoning. The two of us then went outside to the driveway. Miss Brills was struggling to pick up the canvases out of the trunk. I picked up the canvases which were actually sort of heavy even for me.

"You should've brought your Dad to help, Soph. He could've carried a lot of this easily." I joke.

Miss Brills makes a face, looking uncomfortable for some reason. Sophia bites her lip.

"He's busy right now."

"He's always 'busy' when we need help with painting," I reply.

"Dad has different work hours than he normally does, so he's uh... just not as available as he used to be." Sophia murmurs.

I shrug. "We can do it ourselves. Girl power!"

She chuckles. "True. Just let me carry the jars for water."

I carry the canvases inside and bring them outside, resting them against the wall of the back wall. Sophia comes back and sets the paintbrushes on the table, then rests the jars of water on the table as well. We've been using these jars to clean off the brushes for months so the jar rims have been caked in paint. Miss Brills walks over with one easel in hand. Sophia and I got the last easel from the car, then setting up both the canvases on said easels.

"You text me whenever you're ready to come home, alright honey?" Miss Brills says.

"Alright. I'll also text you if I'm invited to stay for dinner." Sophia replies.

Miss Brills smiles. "Okay. You two have fun!"

She walks away and I wave to her. Sophia gets out a paint palette. She hands me one too and begins to squirt a mixture of reds, blues, and purples onto her palette. Hmm. What do I want to paint? Ooh, I know. I'll paint a flower. I think about which flower I want to paint, putting my hair up into a ponytail. Sophia always looks so pretty when she paints. Her long dark hair is tied up into a messy bun on top of her head and always has a pen and a pencil pinning the bun in place. I'm sure she has more hair ties and pins holding it together, but she's very good at hiding it.

The pair of overalls and white t-shirt she has on is already covered in paint from our previous days of painting. I twirl a free strand of my red hair and tuck it behind my ear, figuring that I would like to paint a lily. I start painting and start doing the stem and the grass. I look over to Sophia's canvas and look confused. I can't seem to identify what she's painting. It's a red blotch of paint with stripes of blues and purples spread throughout.

"Hey, what exactly are you painting?" I ask.

"I'm painting a heart." She said curtly.

"A real one? It looks like one from a biology textbook." I reply.

"The reference I'm using is from one. Gabriel let me take a photo from his to use for reference. He's really into books so I figured he'd have one somewhere." Sophia replies.

"Is this supposed to be a study for biology?" I query, moving on to painting the flower petals.

"Well, not really... I just wanted to do a heart." She mutters.
