The Prince's Servant

Zara's POV

I've recently gotten a new job. I'm moving up in the world, even if it's ever so slightly. I work around the castle of our great royal family. I'm on my own and it's a struggle to go through life alone. I don't have any close family members, nor am I in a relationship with anyone. I work as a helper around the castle. I work around the grounds, keeping everything clean and doing yard work, but I wish that I could work in the castle more. The prince of the Moon family dynasty, Theodore Moon, is quite a handsome man. Of course, he would never do anything with me. I'm a lowly peasant and he's high royalty. Although to my surprise in the few months that I've been working here, he hasn't found a suitor. He's been searching for a suitor to be the princess to him being a prince. They need an heir to the throne I suppose. I think I look nice in my peasant wear and I try my best to be kind. While I haven't been able to go to school, it is an expensive affair, I think I have enough knowledge other than from books to be considered 'smart'.

A man like him would never choose me to be his suitor. I feel like being by his side on the throne is something that I could only dream of. I think it would be too much pressure, not something that I would be unable to do, but I think it would be a lot of stress. It would be something that I would need a lot of time to get used to the treatment. I finish trimming the rose bushes outside and I'm covered in thorns, splinters, and dirt. I walk through the castle and make my way to the servant's quarters so I can wash all this off of me.

I washed off and thankfully the splinters were small and the thorns were easy to remove. I dry off with spare cloth and change into another peasant dress, this one had purple accents and a dark purple corset. I give my hair a quick once over and then, finished with my groundskeeping duties, I walk around the castle to see if any of the other maids needed help or if there was anything else to do. I heard voices in the throne room and noticed Prince Theodore talking to some rather well-dressed noblewomen. There are always women here trying to court him and see if they are the ones worthy to be a Princess in the Moon Kingdom dynasty. I don't think that he liked any of them due to his lack of choosing a woman. He's been doing this for almost a year. I hide around a pillar and eavesdrop on the conversation, happy to have something to do and get a chance to know the prince more.

"Prince Theodore, won't you at least hear us out?" One woman asks.

"It's so rude that you're ignoring us!" The other woman chimes in.

"I've been hearing you out for the last hour. You can't say that you are being ignored when I told you that I had refused your offer." The prince replies.

"You'll never find an heir to the throne with the high standards that you have." The first woman scolds.

"I don't care how long I have to wait but I want to find someone that ignores my status, I want to find the one, the one that's perfect in every way." Prince Theodore states.

"Why would you want that?- The second woman rolls her eyes -No wonder everyone says that you're arrogant."

"It's just one simple thing that I ask for, and please don't call me arrogant, it's a label I truly dislike." He responds.

"Stating that you deny being arrogant is the most arrogant thing that you can do." The first woman scoffs.

"I wish you luck trying to find a suitor for the throne with that attitude." The second one adds.

The two women turn around, their expensive dresses spinning and twirling at their heels as they walk away. Prince Theodore looks down and lets out a sigh. He looks in my direction and I duck to hide. I hear him chuckle and can feel my face getting hot with blush.
