Emily's POV

I lean back into the lawn chair that I'm sitting in. Hope is sitting in the chair next to me. She reaches a hand out and caresses my cheek. I giggle softly and then push her hand away. I grab my stick and bring it out of the fire. The whole team was sitting around a campfire and we had the idea to roast marshmallows. We have graham crackers and chocolate so we can have s'mores. I gave my marshmallow a once over. It hadn't caught on fire yet and it was perfectly golden brown. Perfect! I take it off and smush it in a collection of chocolate and graham crackers, creating a delicious s'more. I bite into it. The marshmallow is gooey, the chocolate is melty, and the graham cracker is just crunchy. Mmm...

"Emily, Hope, could we ask you a question?" Gwen asks.

I nod. Hope smiles.

"Sure, I guess since you all found out about us, you've got questions about our relationship." Hope answers.

"Yes, please, tell us more! We're curious." Felix hums.

"What do you want to know?" I ask.

"How did you two get together? If you are so quiet, did Hope have to make the first move?" Priya wonders.

"Remember when we celebrated Christmas last year?" Hope prompts.

Everyone nods. Hope and I begin to explain what happened and how we indeed got together. The two of us had just finished setting up the cage for Hope's new pet. We put bedding in the cage, filled up the food bowl and his water container, and then set Scrooge in the cage. Hope smiles, saying that he was really cute. He is so I agree with her.

After that, I suggested we go outside. We were going to leave in the morning and go to a new town, but there was so much pretty snow, I wanted to take advantage of it. Hope agreed with me and then we went outside. It was cold, but we had our winter gear on so that was good. I shivered as we walked around Aspen. It is a really beautiful place. I couldn't imagine living here, being able to see this every winter season. How lovely. A sharp breeze hits and it goes right up my coat, chilling me to my bones. I stop walking and Hope comes over to me, she wraps her arms around me and I get really close to her. Her body warmth radiates through me. She's really warm for being out here in this cold. Hope suggests that we go back inside and I agree. I'm scooped up into her arms and carried back inside our RV. I lean into Hope, still liking her warmth. Then Hope asks the fateful question.

"We could get even closer, share even more body warmth if you would like?"

"I wouldn't mind that actually." I agree, winking at her suggestion.

"Per privacy and dignity, we won't spare the details," Hope says, ending the reminiscing.

"I'm glad that you didn't keep explaining," Luke mutters.

"Are there any more secrets you're hiding from us, Emily?" Ben queries.

"I could explain why I'm so quiet." I hum.

"It would help us understand you better, and help us work together as a team." Chief Arrow hums.

"You don't have to do it all at once, I know that it's hard!" Hope says softly, kissing my cheek.

"I'll be fine, Hopey, don't worry," I assure, kissing her cheek back.

"You told Hope, so you can tell us," Gwen responds.

"This all happened when I was four years old..." I start and continue to explain.

My parents would argue a lot, my father was an alcoholic and my mother was a prostitute. I would always hear their arguments but wouldn't understand what they were saying exactly. My older sisters, Evelyn and Erica, did understand but they figured that they would tell me when I was older. Although they didn't get to tell me because one day, my mother got pregnant by one of her clients. My father was very mad and he killed her in front of us, just pummeling her into a pulp. I was traumatized, how could I not be when my mother was on the ground, dead? I was shoved into another room by my sisters, I could hear them yelling at my Dad through the door. Screams were heard and my sisters were killed too. I found that out after I got to leave the room, even though I didn't get to leave for a while..."

"What?! He killed your sisters too?! I didn't know that!" Hope exclaims.

"He did," I said somberly.

"Oh, my god," Priya mumbled.

"Jesus Christ," Luke says.

"That's so terrible... I feel sorry for you." Felix sympathizes.

"It's okay, it was a long time ago," I mumble.

"Don't tell me there's more." Ben hums.

"There is more," I murmur.

"You can get through it!" Hope reassures.

"My dad broke into the room where I was hiding and then he sexually assaulted me, and he continued to abuse me for 13 years. I became mute and even more traumatized. Until one day, when I was saved from the abuse by Officer David Jones from the Grimsborough Police Department, who helped me become the woman I am today." I finish.

"Ew." Luke and Felix say in sync.

"Wow. I can't believe it..." Ben mutters.

"That's awful... but we at least know why you're quiet." Chief Arrow replies.

"He went to jail for it, and I've gotten over it with therapy. I can get used to human touch now." I reveal.

I turn back to the fire, going back to making s'mores. I want to distract myself from thinking about the things I've revealed. I hum and after a while, the group goes back to talking about random things. The fire illuminates the area, providing warmth for the cool night. At least it's off my chest. That feels good, yeah, that feels good.
