𝕹ewt swallows the dread crawling up his throat, holding his granddaughter on his hip, her parents silently staring at her until Remus turned to Willow, pleading in a throaty whisper,
"Stay"
Wordlessly, I turned towards him, studying the alarming desperation and sheer trepidation paling his face, teeth nibbling his lips and honey eyes slightly glossy. He's ready to beg, plead, demand and order, I could tell, it'll be unavailing but he'll give it a damn good try.
Halloween. 31st October, 1981.
The formulated plans to take Voldemort's body down before he lays a hand on the Potter-Blacks or Longbottoms was occurring tonight. And the last time I'd officially taken part in a mission like this was when I was attacked by Greyback himself, and resulted in the three white lines permanently scarred on my skin, the same ones underneath my dark jacket doodled with crescent moons, paw prints, hearts and maple leaves.
So, Remus did not want me to be involved in the attack, incase something unforeseen happened and it all went very wrong, incase neither of us make it back to our little girl and history repeated itself like with me all those years ago with my parents. He wanted me to stay, to be with Newt and Maple until the victorious news spread throughout the Wizarding world or until he returned to inform us they had failed.
Admittedly, I couldn't tell him one of the many reasons as to why I am going is because in the cruel face of death, the devil on his shoulder may just tip the scales more than i'd like and he wouldn't give it his all. He'd give up half heartedly and suffer a killing curse. And maybe — maybe if i'm there, and he sees me besides him, united and devoted, he'll gain the extra willpower and determination to see the daylight of tomorrow, back with our family, back with our cub safely.
Shaking my head, forcing down the fear from my throat to my toes planted firmly on the floor, I reached my hand up to smooth my thumb against his scruffy jaw, leaning up on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek, repeating in a murmur, "No, Re, i'll be with you. Us beings have each other's backs"
Remus tries to relax his clenching jaw, teeth grinding together in order to prevent the wolf from tearing from the darkened rivers of his chest, eyes flashing golden whilst demanding ferally that 'no' wasn't an option. He knew her though, he knows his Willow and as much as she's sweet and understanding, she's stubborn and she's dedicated. If she wants to see this war through, she will do.
He sighs reluctantly, knowing if he made her stay, she'd only follow him afterwards slyly when he left. His amber eyes drift towards his daughter, cheek flattened against Newt's chest, eyelashes fluttering and babbling for them occasionally in her sleep. With his heart giving a painful lurch from leaving her, he tears his eyes away and back on to Willow, muttering,
"We better get going then"
"Be as safe as possible, Lilo, please. And don't worry, i've got the hang of this baby thing by now, I love you" Newt murmurs, bending his free arm around his goddaughter and planting a kiss on her head, a soft hum sounding from her throat, replying, "I know, dad, I love you too. We'll be back soon"
