"It is officially finished," Kol announced as he placed a giant, four inch three ring binder in front of Penelope, who was sitting at the kitchen island icing cupcakes.

"And, what is this?" Penelope asked, looking at Kol with raised eyebrows.

"That is everything you need to know about Heartmates," He answered with a smirk. Penelope looked from Kol to the large binder.

"And what am I to do with this?"

"...I don't know, read it, perhaps?" He replied sarcastically as he rolled his eyes at her.

"Why'd you put it in a binder? Why not just tell Elijah and I when we asked before?" She asked, pushing the binder away from her and continued to ice the apple pie cupcakes.

"No offense, Penny, but I'd really rather not have to sit and explain to my brother and my sister-in-law the ins-and-outs of vampire blood sharing sex," He answered, his face scrunching up in disgust.

"Well you just answered the question!" Penelope exclaimed, rolling her eyes. "All we wanted to know was how Little Bump was possible. You just answered it. Blood sharing while having sex. That's all we needed to know."

"It's far more complicated than that!" He exclaimed as he pulled the binder closer to him, opening it up towards the back. "You have to factor in your human body and its biology, as well as the timing. When you two act in blood sharing, there's a lot of debate on if it's more effective in the morning or in the evening. Also, how you blood share! Acting on it before sex, or during is often debated which is better but-"

"Wait, are there more vampire babies?" Penelope asked, looking at him shocked.

" I've only found two records of it happening," Kol admitted hesitantly.

"Well, who are they? Where are they? Can Elijah and I meet them?!" She asked, putting her piping bag down. Kol looked away from her and down at the binder.

"In the first case, the mother and the baby died within the first year of birth," Kol answered quietly, and Penelope's heart fell, and dread began to fill her as she instantly placed her hand on her stomach. "The father was driven mad with grief, slaughtered multiple settlements and killed himself by stepping out into the sun, but not before recording it down and leaving the message: Burn the Witches." Kol explained and Penelope looked down.

"How did they die?" She whispered.

"Stakes to the heart," He answered simply.

"But if they were human, then why-"

"You have Elijah's blood, his vampire blood, running through your veins because of the baby. That's why you can't be compelled, why you can be healed so quickly. Your body has a mix of human and vampire blood. Vampires can't compel other vampires, and Originals can't compel other originals," Kol explained and Penelope frowned in confusion.

"But, I'm not an original, let alone a vampire."

"No, but as I said: you have Elijah's blood in your veins. Elijah, is an original; he can't be compelled. He can't be compelled, you have his blood running through you, ergo, you cannot be compelled. Technically you are an original."

"But," Penelope started, feeling even more confused. "What does that have to do with the woman-"

"Medicine wasn't as advanced as it is now," Kol cut her off. "The mortality rate of women dying in childbirth was astronomically high back then. She died with vampire blood in her system, she ended up turning."
