As much as Penelope enjoyed and loved Christmas, the actual day of Christmas has always been a bit lackluster to her. There is something about the build up to the actual day that is so much more magical than the day itself. However, it was proving to be a relaxing day...so far. Although the day has only started two hours ago and Penelope was currently preparing breakfast. She smiled when she felt Elijah's hands around her and his lips on her shoulder.
"Good morning," He whispered and she leaned back into his chest.
"Morning."
"And what is my beautiful, and very pregnant wife doing?"
"Making breakfast."
"Penelope," He warned lightly.
"I was gonna have you put it in the oven!"
"You shouldn't be on your feet this much."
"Oh this is quick, 'Lijah. It'll spend more time in the oven then I will be prepping and putting it together."
"What is it you're making?"
"Peacan Pie baked French Toast."
"That sounds like a tooth ache."
"Good thing you don't get them," She turned to smile at him and he chuckled, shaking his head and pressed another kiss on her shoulder.
"Please tell me that there is going to be more than dessert for breakfast?"
"It's Christmas, why would there be?"
"I thought so," He sighed, shaking his head then pulled away from her.
"I was also thinking of doing a breakfast casserole if you want to start getting that ready," she suggested, nodding to his laptop screen. He frowned and leaned in and skimmed through the recipe before sighing. He didn't say anything else, instead he went to the fridge and began taking everything he needed out. "Don't give me that sigh!"
"What sigh?"
"The sigh that means you'd rather have a real hearty breakfast for Christmas!"
"I'd rather have your blood for breakfast, but seeing as that can't happen for a few more months," He retorted and she rolled her eyes.
"Well, you better get used to this."
"Oh, I should?" He asked, teasing her as he began preparing the food.
"Yes, you should," She nodded as she turned the sink on and washed her hands. "Can you put this in the oven please?" Elijah nodded as he opened the oven and placed the casserole dish in on the middle rack.
"And why should I?" He asked, closing the oven door then went back to preparing the breakfast casserole.
"For the babies," She answered simply as she sat on her usual bar stool. Elijah paused and looked at her. His heart melted as he looked at her. Penelope leaned into the back of the couch and rubbed circles on her swollen stomach, smiling softly down at it. She had changed into a new set of pajamas that morning. Now she was sporting a heather grey baseball t-shirt with black and red buffalo plaid sleeves. Elijah's smile grew when he realized what it said.
Little bumps first Christmas! With an ornament with little baby feet in the middle.
"I will tell you, Christmas is the one day a year that children wake up well before the parents do. So, I'll be prepping the breakfast the night before, that way all we have to do is put it in the oven first thing in the morning and when it's all cooled and ready to eat, we'll be done with presents!"
