ESCHEWAL TURNS RIGHT AS he steps out of the restaurant and walks into an off-licence to buy a sugar-free drink.
Outside of the off-licence stands a young lady by a bus stop. She looks over at him as he pays for his drink.
She had been making her way to meet a guy, but on the way, he called and said he could no longer meet her. All week she had prepared for the date; it was the one thing that got her through her stressful week at work. She had planned on having sex with the guy on the first night. She had visions of being stretched out on a bed with her legs in the air and her hair messed up from rough intercourse. Her sights are now set firmly on Eschewal. She contemplates how to get his attention. He steps out of the off-licence. Her nerves give, and she looks away just quick enough for him not to have noticed that she was staring.
He glances at her and feels she is not his usual type. She is a bit on the chunky side but relatively tall, so she carries the chunkiness well.
He steps past her and notices that her eyes twitch towards him. At that moment, it is as if something in the air flashes images of him having sex with her in his flat.
As if The Dog had burst out of his back and stopped him in his tracks, which makes him think, 'She's just like you; all she wants is a little sexual release. Just step to her. All she can say is no.'
He turns around, his nerves running a rampage. He heads back to her like someone who has nothing to lose.
He gets her attention. She turns around with a broad smile like she has won the lottery.
"Sorry, what did you say?" she says.
Like a good actor, he hides his nervousness and repeats, "I said, what is a beautiful girl like you doing alone on a Friday night?"
She smiles. "Oh, I came from visiting my grandparents. I'm just on my way home."
He nods. "Yeah, so what's your name anyway?"
"Camille!"
He has already forgotten her name. He extends his hand. "Nice to meet you, babes. My name's Eros." He does not let go of her hand. "So you're saying that you're just going home?"
She nods.
"Ok, so if that's all you're doing, what would you say if I invited you around to my flat for something to eat?" He holds his breath while waiting for her reply and tries to think of something cool to say if she says no.
Slowly, her lips begin to stretch open, revealing her white teeth. It is not yet certain if her mouth is turning up into a smile until she says, "Yeah, alright."
He pauses for a moment and thinks, 'That seemed too easy. Maybe there is something wrong with this chick?' He is sure he hears The Dog barking, which he interprets as The Dog demanding that he stop thinking. His heart skips a beat as he leads her to his home.
