Chapter 31

INSIDE ESCHEWAL'S CAR IS quiet until Deuce breaks the silence. He says, "Oi, you lot, who's got condoms?"

No one answers.

Deuce repeats himself, "Oi, ain't you lot got no condoms?"

Eschewal shakes his head.

Spiv says, "Just chill, man. We deal with that when we get there, man."

Deuce turns towards the back seat and says to Spiv, "How you mean we deal with that when we get there? We need some boots now, blood. It come in like you wanna play with death?"

"Nah, what I'm saying is that room service can bring that."

Deuce turns back in his seat. "Alright, that's what I wanna hear because there're chicks out on road walking around with disease up their skirt. Trust me. You ever slip with one of these hoes you slide all the way to your grave, you feel me?"

No one replies to Deuce's words of wisdom. He then turns the conversation, "Oi, who's taking which one?"

No one says anything.

He says, "Boy, I want the one wearing the short skirt, blood." He is talking about the most attractive female; he always has to have the best.

Spiv grits his teeth as he knows Deuce will do anything within his power until he gets the most attractive one. He tries to put Deuce off because he wants to pair the most attractive female with Eschewal. "That ting is on Eros's case, blood, it come in like you didn't see?"

Deuce laughs. "Listen, I never see nothing, blood. It's every man for himself. Man's free to make his move, blood; it's nothing." He looks over at Eschewal. "Oi, bruv, do you want that ting then, yeah?"

Eschewal stops the car at a pair of traffic lights. "Boy, whatever, whoever, blood. I'm not bothered," he lies. His thoughts break as the lights change. He lifts the clutch and moves off.

Spiv says, "Take the next left up there. The hotel is at the end of the road."

Eschewal turns left. He looks in his rearview mirror to check if the three attractive females are still behind him. They are, so he continues driving down the long road.
