OUTSIDE IS STILL LIGHT as Eschewal makes his way to the bus stop where Kaya should still be waiting for him. He weaves his car through the slow moving traffic in a frantic haste.
From out of nowhere, BANG!
Eschewal hits his car into a station wagon.
"SHIT!" He punches the steering wheel as he cannot believe he has crashed his new car.
He pulls the car over to the side of the road while thinking, 'This must be a sign. I can't make The Dog in me win. I have to continue finding a wifey. If by some stroke of luck Kaya is still at the bus stop when I get there, I'll make her my wifey.'
He gets out and looks toward the sky while he waits for the owner of the station wagon to get out of his car.
"SHIT!" Eschewal says again as he spots Deuce strolling out of a sweetie shop. Eschewal grits his teeth and wishes he could have hidden, but it is too late; Deuce spots him and saunters over.
Deuce waits until Eschewal deals with the station wagon driver but wonders if Eschewal has made it work with Reasha.
"Yes, blood," Deuce hits fists with Eschewal as the station wagon driver walks back to his undented car.
Eschewal nods. "Yeah, wha gwan?"
Deuce shrugs. "Boy, nothing. I ain't seen you for long, though, bruv." Deuce had purposely stopped using Eschewal to drive him around to meet different girls because his girlfriend had become aware of Eschewal's car. But now that Deuce sees Eschewal has a new car, he can now use Eschewal to drive him around again.
Deuce taps Eschewal's car. "You got a new whip then, yeah?"
Eschewal smiles and nods. "Yeah, I bought it last week," he says.
Deuce returns the smile. "Seen, so where were you off to anyway?"
Eschewal does not want to risk Deuce talking him into doing a threesome with Kaya, so he lies, "Boy, nowhere, man. I was just cruising innit, and that dick head banged into me, innit."
"Yeah," Deuce sucks air through his teeth, then with a joyful tone, he says, "give me a chick then."
Eschewal steps back. He thinks of Kaya and wonders if Deuce will sense he is lying. "Boy, I ain't got no links, blood. I ain't got nothing, cuz."
"What happened to that ting last time?"
Memories of Reasha's smelly feet hit Eschewal. "Nah, she was long, blood. You get me?" He sucks his teeth, and before he says the following sentence, he knows he will regret it and blow his chance of making Kaya his wife, but he cannot help himself. "I'm looking for something now, bruv."
With excitement in his voice, Deuce suggests, "Come then, let's go out there now and see if we can pick up some strays."
Eschewal bites his lip and contemplates telling Deuce the truth that Kaya is waiting for him at a bus stop, and he wants to make her his wife. He looks into Deuce's sexfiend eyes and thinks, 'What's the use? He'll never understand. Sorry, Kaya.'
Eschewal throws his car key in the air and says, "Yeah, come we go then."
With his shoulders slightly hunched and his head bowed, Eschewal gets into his car, followed by Deuce, and drives off to one of the high street corners.
