ESCHEWAL PUNCHES THE AIR. He feels as if a heated knife is stuck in his heart. He shakes his head, knowing he has lost her, the only woman he believes he could ever love. He sighs. He was planning to start saving for the next five years, buy Manna a beautiful ring, get down on one knee, and propose marriage.
He closes his eyes and thinks back to the black book. He wonders if his loss of interest in becoming a creator of values after he first saw Manna in the park is why he lost her. He feels it might be. He thinks hard about what the black book would suggest he do in a situation like this. The only thing that comes to mind is: fully integrated honesty.
He grits his teeth and heads back up the stairs. He has decided to be fair with Manna and will not continue the relationship with deceit.
He enters the room; he looks into Manna's eyes. The thought crosses his mind to say nothing, but he knows that would only cause his true love long-term pain. He could never do that; he loves her so much already.
It feels like a nightmare as if he is not telling her how he knows the girl in the picture.
Once the last word jumps off his lips, the heartbreak that sweeps over Manna's features is visible.
