ESCHEWAL SITS AT HIS desk. Thoughts of the nasty action he would have done at the weekend explode in his mind. He wants to slam his fist on the desk and scream, "WHY!" but he knows why he lost control, so he relaxes and meditates.
The key to controlling destructive behavior is to fill one's life with productive forms of stimulation that outweigh the destructive behavior's stimulation.
Eschewal slides his finger down his nose and huffs. He knows he will be in big trouble if he does not find the girl in the park. He believes she is his only hope to provide a productive source of stimulation greater than The Dog's urge for promiscuous sex.
A colleague of his flips him out of his meditation. "Are you alright, mate?"
Eschewal looks up to the voice and dons a false smile. "Yeah, I'm alright. I've just got a few things on my mind."
"Is it anything I can help you with?" enquires the colleague.
"Nah, I'm sweet, mate," replies Eschewal with a wink.
The colleague smiles. "Oh, I see, women trouble, ah?"
Eschewal nods. "Yeah, something like that."
The colleague nods and then continues with whatever he is doing, leaving Eschewal to his thoughts.
As if creeping from the bottom of his heart, sadness spreads across Eschewal's face. The dream of waking up in the morning with the girl in the park as his wife and dressing their children for school is dissolving each day.
He squeezes his eyes together as he fights back tears. He lowers his head and wipes his eyes. He repeats to himself, "Be strong, be strong, don't give up. Life has to give you what you demand. You will find her."
His phone vibrates. He looks at the caller ID. Deuce is calling him again to awaken The Dog. He bites down on his lip and pushes down the anger rising inside him. The phone stops vibrating. He receives a message. He listens to it. Deuce offers him free entry to an exclusive club that only admits the rich and famous, along with a few other lucky souls.
He does not want to go. He needs to take a break from Deuce because tempting The Dog in him with all those sexual encounters is not helping his goal.
He rubs his head. He knows he will be going because he would not forgive himself if he did not go and the girl in the park had been there.
