HOT FLUSHES SHOOT THROUGH Eschewal as he approaches the bus stop. He takes a deep gulp of air as he calls Manna's name.
She turns her head. Her beautiful eyes connect with his. For a second, he loses his breath. He says, "Hi, how are you doing? Can we talk?"
"Talk about what?" says Manna as she sucks her teeth.
Her rebuttal takes him aback, but he composes himself and says, "Talk about you and me..."
"There's nothing to talk about, just leave me alone," she replies as she looks away from him.
He pauses in thought as he contemplates whether to open his heart and soul and tell her how he had searched for her for a year, and without her, life does not seem worth living. He nods and decides to tell her, not caring who hears. He begins, "Nah, listen, there is something..." but is cut off by a chunky guy sitting two seats away from her.
"Why don't you leave her alone, mate? She doesn't wanna know."
For a second, Eschewal cannot believe his ears; he says, "What...!"
The chunky guy turns up his lips. "You heard the first time, mate. Leave her alone."
"Ter," says Eschewal as he feels that bad boy urge rise in him. He glares at the chunky guy and bites his lip. His eyes turn stone cold. "Who the rarse you think you are talking to?"
The chunky guy replies, "You, innit. What!" and reaches into his bag to take out a weapon.
Eschewal sees this but does not care because the rage now running through him will numb any form of pain. This person has no idea that Eschewal has the strength of ten men and will rip his head off.
Eschewal steps forward and barks, "WHAT...! Do you think you're greasy? You're not greasy!" Thinking, 'How dare this guy get involved with me and my happiness?'
Manna jumps up. "Nah, don't fight, stop, stop!"
Eschewal looks into her eye. His rage disappears. He backs off and sucks his teeth. He reaches out for her arm. "Can I talk to you, please?"
She pulls her arm away. "No, I can't, please, leave me!"
A bus pulls up. She runs to the open doors.
He watches as she boards, followed by the chunky guy.
The idea of boarding the bus comes and goes. Eschewal is about to cry as he watches the bus take Manna, once again, out of his life.
He holds back the tears, replacing them with a feeling of hate as he wonders, 'Would she even care if I had the chance to break down and cry and tell her I searched for her for a year? Nah,' he thinks as he plods back to his car, 'she wouldn't have cared. Nobody cares.'
