THE NIGHT STREETS ARE fresh from a recent downpour. Eschewal is a road away from Deuce's home. He hates raving on a weeknight, but this is the sacrifice he has to make to fulfill his dream. He stops, parks, and waits outside Deuce's house.

As usual, Deuce makes him wait a while. Finally, he exits his house and then jumps in the car. He brings along a smile and a laugh. He says, "What's up, me brudder? Everything cool, yeah?"

Eschewal looks towards him and says, "Course man, you done know," and covers his hand over Deuce's clenched fist. Eschewal pauses for a second waiting to see if Deuce will mention what happened at the weekend.

Deuce does not and is trying his best not to, so as Eschewal moves through the city towards the nightclub, he bites his tongue from saying, "Oi, bruv, you're a waste-man, you know? How can you leave man on the other side of town? Do you know what I had to do to get home? Not to mention the lies I had to feed my girl." He sucks his teeth and looks through the car window at all the alluring storefronts whizzing past.

Deuce still needs Eschewal to drive him around. He will only get rid of him once his girlfriend or her people become aware of Eschewal's car.

In the meantime, he will plot how to get Eschewal back for deserting him.

He looks over at Eschewal and then back on the road as Eschewal turns left along the road leading to the club.
