Chapter 33

SPIV AND DEUCE WERE already out of the car when the girls stopped and got out of theirs. They have not noticed that Eschewal has not yet gotten out of his car. He looks into his rearview mirror and sees them joking and laughing. Deuce is already whispering in Tanisha's ear; Spiv tries to distract Tanisha from Deuce but fails.

Eschewal's eyes follow them as they all walk up the stairs towards the hotel doors. It seems they don't realize that he is not with them. He thinks if they all walk through the hotel doors without still realizing, he will count to thirty and then go.

Everyone except Deuce enters the hotel. He stops atop the stairs and looks down towards the car. He shrugs and says, "What's going on, fam?"

Eschewal does not reply. He pulls the key out of the ignition and pops the door open.

Deuce walks back down the stairs towards the car.

As Eschewal gets out and shuts the door, Deuce repeats himself, "What's going on, fam? Aren't you coming up?"

Eschewal pauses before replying. He wants to say, "Bruv, I'm not feeling the vibe, I wanna go home," but knows Deuce will make him feel guilty by saying, "Bruv, that's bad mind, why you cock blocking for?"

So instead, he says, "Yeah, man, I just finished talking to someone on the phone, innit. Then I tried to see if I had any condoms in the car, but I haven't got any."

Deuce flicks his fingers towards the floor and says, "Just cool, man. Spiv said we can get some from room service." He turns his head towards the hotel and then back to Eschewal. "Come, man," he orders with a laugh, "you going on like you don't want no pussy."

Spiv appears at the hotel door. You can hear the fear in his voice as he says, "Shit, I thought you lot had gone, boy."

Deuce replies, "Nah, man. Everything is cool, fam. Come, let's beat up some pussy."

He leads the way over to the check-in desk and wraps his arm around Tanisha's waist. She does not resist and rubs her butt cheek against his crotch.

Soshana and Yashima look at each other and whisper, "She's such a little tart. Why can't she play a little hard to get?"

Spiv, without anyone noticing, glares at Deuce and then focuses on the concierge. He confirms his reserved penthouse suite, which is kept for him two days during the week and one day at the weekend.

The concierge hands over the key to Spiv as vexation falls from Spiv's face. He feels he will not be able to pair Tanisha with Eschewal as planned. This makes him not want to go up to the penthouse. He shakes his head, turns around, then bellows, "You lot ready, yeah? Okay, let's go and have some fun."
