ESCHEWAL ENTERS THE DOWNSTAIRS bar area. He stops and looks around. His heart rate has fallen to normal but is on its way back up. He thinks for a moment that he has lost the girl again. Then finally, his eyes fall upon her. She stands by the bar, her beauty glowing and captivating him.
He smiles. 'What a life,' he thinks, 'just when I gave up hope and least expected it, she steps back into my life.'
He takes a deep breath; all his nerves have disappeared. He feels calm and confident.
He borrows a pen from a guy who has written down his number 12 times and given it to 12 different girls.
He writes down his number and begins his approach.
He reaches the girl, grips her wrist, and leans in, then says, "If you want to find out how a real man treats a woman, give me a call."
She smiles, and his breath is taken away on seeing her beautiful teeth.
He slides her his number, but before he leaves, he says, "Sorry, where's my manners. Would you like a drink?"
Once again, the girl reveals her beautiful teeth. She shakes her head and says, "No, thank you."
He nods. "Okay, I'll wait for your call then."
Cool as possible, he walks back out of the girls' life, wondering whether he has done enough to become a part of her life. Only time will tell.
"Yeah, only time will tell," he says to himself while walking back up the stairs.
His last thoughts before reaching Deuce are, 'Was it a mistake not to ask for her name? Nah,' he thinks, 'if it's not meant to be, I only want to remember her as THE GIRL IN THE PARK.'
