ESCHEWAL CAN NOT SEE, BUT behind him is a swarm of customs officers running towards him. They have been waiting for word from the officers inside the baggage claim hall that the suitcase has been picked up.

Eschewal is three feet away from where people are randomly called for a search. He looks at the officers; they are not looking in his direction. He feels, for the first time, that one of Tek's crimes is going to work, and he will successfully smuggle 27 kilos of cannabis until, from behind, two different hands grip his arms.

A voice says, "Excuse me, sir, is that your suitcase?"

Eschewal smiles. He nods and feels the officer's grip tighten on his arm.

"We have reason to believe that you have in your possession an illegal controlled substance. Please come with us."

Eschewal is led towards the airport holding cells. His thoughts run on what the black book says about subjective crime.

The black book told him: Anybody who has been sent to prison for a crime that did not involve force, fraud, or coercion is not a criminal. The black book further stated: Once the anticivilization collapses, these prisoners will be set free. Or, if they are already set free, their subjective crimes will be cleared from all records.

This understanding draws a smile across Eschewal's face as he steps out of the airport and up to the cells.

He dwells: 'Yeah, the "crime" I've committed is subjective. I've not hurt anybody and not planned to force anybody to hurt themselves with the drug or to commit an objective crime like street robbery to buy the drug.'

So feeling that his heart is clean, he swaggers into the surprisingly clean cell.
