DEUCE HAS JUST CANCELED his date with Venisha. She sits back down, vexed. She had done her nails and hair for the double date with her friend, Deuce and Eschewal. She sucks her teeth, picks up her phone, and dials her friend to let her know her date is canceled.

The phone answers.

"Hi, babes."

"What's up, sweetie?" replies the friend.

"Nothing much, just calling to say my link has flopped."

The friend replies, "Not to worry, babes. I've got backup. Some guy just called me. I met him last weekend; he wants to link a friend and me."

"Really?" replies Venisha.

"Yeah," replies the friend. "So should I call him back and tell him yes?"

Venisha pauses. "Yeah, go on then, um, what's his name anyway? Where did you meet him?"

"Oh, his name's Mark. I met him while standing at a bus stop. He pulled up in a black sports car, and you know I don't usually talk to guys who do that. But he got out of his car and came up to me."

Venisha's stomach sinks. Mark is the name she knows Deuce by, and he drives a black sports car.

"MARK?" says Venisha.

"Yeah, why, do you know him?"

"What does he look like?"

"Well, he's a pretty boy, tonk he's kinda choong still."

Venisha's mouth drops open. "Oh my God, I swear down, he's the same guy we were meant to link today."

The friend covers her mouth, then says, "Don't lie. You're lying."

"I'm not, Alena. What's his number?"

"Hold on," says Alena as she flicks through her other phone. She reads out the number, and it matches. "Bastard," curses Alena. "You see; that's why I hate players, you know."

Venisha coughs. She feels a bit embarrassed that Deuce chose Alena over her. Deep down, Alena is thrilled that Deuce chose her, but girls have to stick together in the end.
