LUNCHTIME ARRIVES. ESCHEWAL SPENDS most of the morning, wondering what approach to take with Reasha.
He watches as she eats the last of her sandwich and rises from the table.
His palms become sweaty; his heart rate speeds up. His legs go weak, and his mind spins into the world of self-doubt.
'What if she blows me out?' he says to himself. He has decided on the smooth sexy approach with a bit of ruff. 'What if this approach is wrong? Should I go for the respectful-modest approach? Shit, which one should I use?'
He breathes in and out heavily. 'Damn, be cool fool.'
Calm and steady, he stands up. He leaves his plate behind and trails Reasha towards the exit.
Unaware, Reasha walks through the swinging doors to the elevators. He follows. As the elevator door opens, he grips her arm. "Excuse me," he says, looking deep into her eyes, "I know you're not gonna keep acting as if you ain't noticed me watching you?"
She smiles and replies, "Yeah, I've noticed, but why didn't you say something to me in the office?"
He releases his grip but keeps hold of her hand, and as he caresses it with soft strokes, he says in a ghetto tone, "You listening, it's true say I don't want people to know my business, you feel me?" He does not wait for a reply as he adds, "Can I get your number?"
Reasha smiles and nods.
He takes out his phone and punches in the number.
