35. Night Before The Exam

Shehnaaz was two months pregnant and her college tests were about to begin shehnaaz was preparing for her final testy with all her heart and soul. It was her last term, and she wanted to leave no stone unturned in acing the tests and getting good grades.

Shehnaaz and Jasmine were working very hard and concentrating on their studies. Sidharth used to call shehnaaz at different intervals of the day just to know if she needed anything. Shehnaaz felt annoyed with sidharth calling her multiple times. All that wished for was sufficient time to focus on her studies. Her schedule used to get disturbed due to Sidharth's calling her multi ple times in the day. Due to this, she wasn't able to focus properly on her preparations.

Shehnaaz was bound to answer every call, and she could not make any excuse to avoid them either, Much to shehnaaz's shock, the same had been mentioned in the contract that shehnaaz had signed without reading, stating that Shehnaaz was liable to pick up Sidharth's call.

On the other hand, Jasmine was also under massive stress. She was engrossed in her test preparations, but she was also worried about her wedding, which was quite near. Though she tried to put in an effort, Jasmine did not succeed in focusing on her studies. It was the thought of her wedding that crossed her mind every now and then

One fine evening, shehnaaz and Jasmine were in their room preparing for their tests, Approximately 3-4 hours had passed, "After these tests, we will become law graduates in a few days, " Jasmine announced.

As a response, Jasmine grabbed the pillow lying beside her on the bed and threw it at shehnaaz .

You know, I would have appreciated your et forts if you were worried about my wedding in the same way you helped me with making my notes for exams. My wedding is scheduled to take place next month, and we haven't even star- ted the preparations yet. I don't know how I am going to get things done at such short notice. "Jasmine said.

Shehnaaz felt guilty. Her life was under- going such life-changing events that she had completely forgotten about Jasmine 's wedding

She said, 'I am sorry, Jasmine . I apologise that I could not help you with your wedding preparations. I am helpless"

"You need not panic, shehnaaz . At this time, you have a solid reason why you're pregnant. So, you're excused. But what am I supposed to do now? Aly has been busy with his work lately. And he is the only one who will be handling the wedding preparations at his end. Shehnaaz , you know, I feel lonely and it's quite saddening that you cannot be with me when I need you the most. But anyway, all that happens hap- pens for a reason. Moreover, I am happy that all the problems in your life will be solved. "I pray to God that you will be happy in your life further, " Jasmine expressed.

Shehnaaz glanced at Jasmine with her eyes filled with affection and love. She expressed herself in a soft tone. Jasmine , I don't even deserve to be called your friend. You have always been there for me in every trouble and crisis. And I can not be with you when you need a friend the most. But believe me, Jasmine , I am not selfish. It's the situation that has compelled me to get stuck. The circumstances have made me helpless. You know everything, Jasmine ."

Tears rolled down shehnaaz 's cheek when she confessed her emotions. Ju ila got off the bed and walked towards Shehnaaz . She cupped her face in her hands and focused her gaze on her. What is this nonsense, Shehnaaz ? Now where did this come from?"

Jasmine was upset with the way Shehnaaz was embarrassed by herself.

She continued, "You're mad. I understand your situation very well. And I don't want you to refer to yourself as selfish. I know you very well. Also, I know for a fact that a girl who did not think of herself even once before putting her life at stake for her loved ones can never be selfish. I consider myself fortunate enough to have become your best friend. I am glad have a person in my life who cares about me. It doesn't matter if you cannot be involved completely in my wedding preparati- ons. I know that I have your good wishes with me. Please don't feel guilty at all. And you need not be upset about it"

Jasmine 's comforting words made Shehnaaz even more emotional. She buried her face in her arms and burst into tears. Jasmine caressed her and stroked her hair

"Enough of the crying and sobbing, Shehnaaz . If you dared to continue sobbing, then there is a complete possibility that I would burst into tears. And you know what happens when I begin to cry? It would be total chaos," Jasmine warned dramatically .

Jasmine had made her statement in such a dramatic way that Shehnaaz giggled in between her cries. For a long time, the room reverberated with giggles and laughter.

The next day, the sun was in the sky as usual. But due to spending all night studying, neither Shehnaaz nor jasmine woke up.

Scon, the alarm rang, and it created a Soud noise, which compelled Shehnaaz to wake up. She was in a state of panic when awake.

"Oh my god, we are late! Jasmine, wake up. We had set the alarm for the morning, and it went off, but we did not get up. Now only an hour is left for the tests to start. We kept sleeping till late. I had already warned you yesterday that we should revise the syllabus again, but you didn't listen to me. I knew that we would not wake up on time, and look what has happened today. Now tell me, Jasmine , what can we do in an hour? Should we revise the syllabus or get ready for college? I have told you time and again, but still you take things very casually, Jasmine , "Shehnaaz kept blabbering, trying to vent out her stress.

Jasmine removed the blanket from her face and replied to her, "What is this behavior, Shehnaaz ? Why have you been ranting so early in the morning? Don't you know that it is a criminal offence to ruin a person's morning sleep? First of all, you have woken me up from sleep, and secondly, these rants about yesterday. It has given me a headache. I don't know what would have happened if I slept a little longer."

Shehnaaz smiled at Jasmine and leaned forward to snatch the blanket away from her.

"Nothing much would happen, baby, but you might miss your tests. Come or now, get up and get ready for college" Shehnaaz offered. "You can take a proper nap when we come back from college after the test, and I won't deny or disturb you, I promise," Shehnaaz offered

Jasmine grabbed a corner of the blanket and tried to snatch it away from Shehnaaz , but she could not succeed. And finally. she had to surrender to Shehnaaz and open her eyes.

"It's better to have an enemy than a friend like you. It would not matter to me if I was late for one test. After all, I will be married next month. My fiance, Aly , is working quite hard, and I don't think I want to establish new bench marks in the field of law. It won't be a matter of concern if I get slightly lower grades on one paper. But why am I even trying to convince you when you are stubborn about not bothering with what I'm saying? " Jasmine sulked.

Listening to Jasmine , Shehnaaz smiled at her and asserted, "OK fine, I don't understand anything. But still, get up and go get ready for college. We have to reach college on time."

After some time, both Jasmine and Shehnaaz were on the college campus. They had their notes in their hands and were standing in the corridor. Since they had Spent their night laughing and giggling with each other,

Jasmine and Shehnaaz did not get the proper time to do the revision. Shehnaaz was stressed because she realised it was almost time for the test to begin, but she hadn't done a proper read-through. The same case was with Jasmine . They were engrossed in revising their syllabus for the last time before the test when they heard a voice from behind.
