Just after May made her way out of the apartment, Shehnaaz called Sidharth.
While he was in his cabin, Sidharth was thinking about Shehnaaz. His thoughts were drawn back to the time when the power cut happened. He remembered how he couldn't resist himself and kissed Shehnaaz. He was planning and rehearsing in his mind how he would talk to Shehnaaz.
In the morning, he could not say sorry, and they didn't cross paths either. But he was determined to seek an apology later in the evening. He was rehearsing his dialogues and the sequence when his phone flashed with a call. He glanced at the phone's screen and saw that it was Shehnaaz calling him. He was surprised and wondered, "Why is she calling me? What would I say? But I'm glad that she called. I might not be able to say sorry in front of her face, but I think it would be easier for me to seek forgiveness over a call. "
With the same thought, Sidharth immediately picked up the call.
"Hello, Shehnaaz... I am so glad that you called. I was just thinking about you. Umm... I mean, I was about to call you. And you...." Shehnaaz cut him off and yelled angrily,
"I am not interested in these discussions, Sidharth. Just listen to me."He concluded that Shehnaaz was infuriated at him. Sidharth felt that she was mad at him for the same incident that he wanted to talk to her about. Also, Sidharth assumed that she had called to have a word about the same. "Shehnaaz , umm... whatever happened yesterday was not a deliberate action," Sidharth said softly. I didn't do it intentionally; it just happened. I don't know how, but... I think it was just the heat of the moment, driven by passion. That's it. I am extremely sorry, Shehnaaz."
Shehnaaz didn't interrupt his speech this time but shouted at him, "Sidharth, will you just shut up? I have not called you to talk about that. I wanted to talk about that friend of yours. Please explain to your friend that she is a nobody to pass comments about my character. She isn't supposed to talk nonsense with me. " Sidharth did not understand Shehnaaz's point at all. It went past his head. He questioned her in surprise, "What are you talking about? And which friend do you want me to confront? I didn't understand anything."
Shehnaaz was infuriated at him as she propelled her anger at him, "Your friend Maya had just come home. And you can't even imagine how harshly she rebuked me. I had to bear her nonsense. How dare she degrade my career? Why didn't you tell me that she was going to come home? And what right does she have to disgrace my character? How could she accuse me falsely? It would be better if you made her understand not to mess with me." Sidharth was shocked to hear that. He didn't expect her to go home and rebuke Shehnaaz. He almost screamed over the phone, "What...? Maya has come home? When and why was this? Trust me when I say this I don't know anything about that Shehnaaz , I swear. I really didn't know she was going to come home. And she rebuked you? How dare she do that? Shehnaaz, I will talk to her now. Don't worry. Well... what did she tell you?"
"You have asked me the wrong question. You should rather ask her what all she didn't say. She didn't leave any stone unturned to ruin my character with her words. I am aware,
Sidharth, that I do not belong to your high society. But it does not mean that I don't have self-respect. And my financial status does not allow anyone to insult me. How does it matter to her if I do not belong to an affluent family? Who does she think she is? Who is she to tell me anything? In all these years, nobody has spoken to me like this. And Maya yelled at me and poured her anger on me. I haven't heard such harsh words in my entire life, " Shehnaaz replied to him.Sidharth listened to her calmly and attempted to comfort her, "I am very sorry, Shehnaaz. I had no idea that Maya was going to come home. Had I known about her arrival, I wouldn't have allowed her to come. I know how she is; she doesn't think before she speaks. I know she has anger management issues too. She was angry at me because I refused to marry her. Perhaps she might have come home without prior information so that she could confront me for the same. She knew that if she had told me, I would never have let her come home. And when she didn't find me at the apartment, she vented all her anger on you. She is very stubborn, Shehnaaz . She could not deal with the fact that I had refused her proposal. Please don't pay any attention to Maya or her words. She is adamant about everything in her life. She gets mad if she doesn't get whatever she wants. And perhaps it was only because she was insane that she poured so much rage on you. Just forget her. She is crazy."
All his efforts went down the drain as Sidharth's words had no effect on Shehnaaz. "Look Sidharth, I am not interested in knowing how Maya is and how she behaves," she said, her voice still tinged with rage." I am only concerned about why I should suffer her madness. I have nothing to do with her. If you have refused to marry her, then what is my fault? I didn't ask you to do so. She told me that you denied her marriage proposal because of me. I mean, look at her logic. Is she mad? You tell me about the time I told you not to marry
Her it's your life whether you marry her or not. It is purely your choice. I have nothing to do with it. Why did I come in the middle? Tell your friend that I have no problem with you both getting married. I am just your surrogate, and after the delivery, I will be leaving your life anyway. I would no longer be a part of your life. So I don't care whether you are married to Maya or someone else. And why would I?"Having said that, Shehnaaz hung up the call. She didn't even wait for Sidharth to respond.
And Sidharth was surprised to hear those words. He was still staring at his phone in his hand and thinking about whatever Shehnaaz had just said. Her words echoed in his head and caused pain for him. After being together for so many days, he felt that Shehnaaz loved him. It was just that she did not confess her feelings. If not today, then tomorrow, Sidharth was sure that she would definitely accept the fact that she had fallen in love with him. But the truth has come out to be something else. And it had shaken him to the core. He kept wondering, "If Shehnaaz doesn't have a problem with me getting married to Maya , it means she has nothing in her heart for me. She doesn't have any romantic feelings for me. And she considers herself my surrogate; nothing more than that."
"She is going to leave me after the delivery of the baby. I wanted to make her an integral part of my life. I even dreamt of a happy life with her and my child. That dream of mine would never be fulfilled. Is it true that she doesn't have any feelings for me? If not, then why did she take care of me? If there wasn't love for me in her heart, she shouldn't be worried about me all the time. She understood me. She understood my problems and even supported me when I felt low. What was all that?? Why did she do that? Why did she give rise to false hope in my heart? Why does this always happen to me? Why am I so unlucky in love? Whoever I love leaves me in the end. And now that I have developed feelings for her, Shehnaaz has warned me about leaving. Will she really leave after the baby's delivery? Oh God... why do I always fall prey to these separations?"
Sidharth was heartbroken after the phone call with Shehnaaz. He felt unlucky in love as he had always gotten into pain. He was thinking about Shehnaaz when his thoughts were halted by a call on the intercom. Sidharth picked up the phone. He heard Lisa speaking from the other end of the call, "Sir, all the arrangements for that musical night have been made. Please come and cross-check once."
Sidharth replied. "Okay, I'll come in a while." He took a deep breath and went out of his room.
I would walk miles through the driest desert Just to dry a tear from your eyes
I would say no to the gates of heaven
If that meant I left you behind
