Shehnaaz assumed that she was caught red-handed overhearing the conversation that Sidharth was having with his Dad over his phone. She looked at Sidharth once and turned around to go to her room. But before she could leave, Sidharth called out her name and stopped her from moving any further,
"Shehnaaz..."
Shehnaaz looked back at Sidharth in response. She thought Sidharth might want to tell her something. She walked a few steps and stood before him.
"Yes," she replied softly.
"Shehnaaz, don't wait for me for dinner tonight. I will come after the meeting and most probably have dinner at the office only. Take care of yourself and text me if you need anything. I might not be able to attend your call, but I will try to come home early."
"It's OK, Sidharth, it's just a meeting, and you will be back in a few hours. You don't need to worry about it so much. I will take care of myself. Alright?" Shehnaaz responded. She smiled at Sidharth and assured him.
Sidharth was looking at Shehnaaz's smile. It somehow melted his heart and he felt like he should tell her everything. But something came to his mind, and he restrained himself from sharing his dilemma. She bid him goodbye and went to her room.
Sidharth's heart was pounding. His dad had asked him to come to Maya's house. It was a family meeting regarding what Maya had told him earlier in the day. Sidharth had denied attending the gathering but could not refuse his dad. Sidharth didn't want to participate in the get-together. He wanted to be with Shehnaaz. Sidharth knew that if he would go, he would have to leave his heart at home.
He was well aware that his family would begin influencing him emotionally. He knew that his father wouldn't listen to him and his mom was already in admiration of Maya.
Sidharth had never been able to please his mom with any of his decisions, and today would be no different. Well, nothing can be done now. Sidharth would have to attend this family get-together anyway. He was preparing himself to face everyone. After a while, Sidharth got ready and left for Maya's house.
Shehnaaz was sitting in her room pondering over the discussion between Sidharth and his father. Maya had mentioned earlier that her parents wanted Sidharth and her to get married. But that alliance didn't work out due to Sidharth's being in love with some other girl.
"Now that Sidharth's wedding had been called off, and that incident was a forgotten event... both the families might want them to get married again. They might wish to complete that task that they had left. But... umm... what If the wedding happens for real......? No... no... no... this can't be true. Sidharth had said that he would not marry Maya. Not at any cost. But what if his parents pressurize him to agree to the alliance? He had a reason to deny the wedding earlier but what excuse would he give to his parents when they would ask for one. I don't think he has told anything about me to his family yet. He would not say that he can't get married because he has hired a surrogate," Shehnaaz mumbled to herself.
