y/n, minji, and hanni had been friends since they were young. they grew up in the same neighborhood and spent most of their summer nights together. they would play games, tell ghost stories, and just enjoy each other's company.
on a warm summer evening, hanni and minji decided to sneak out of their houses and sleepover at y/n's house.
y/n let them in and they sat outside in the garden watching the empty streets, listening to the sound of crickets and watching the stars twinkle above them. the streets were deserted and dark.
"let's play truth or dare!" hanni suggested.
y/n and minji agreed, and they began taking turns asking each other questions and completing dares. the game started off innocently enough.
"what's your biggest fear?" minji started off the game and asked hanni. the questions started off really simple and innocent, but as the game continued, the questions and dares became more personal.
hanni asked y/n if she had a crush on anyone, and y/n blushed as she admitted that she did. hanni's eyes flickered with interest, and she asked y/n who it was.
y/n hesitated for a moment, pondering if she should say it. upon seeing hanni and minji's eyes on her, she decided to say it.
"it's minji," y/n said softly, looking at minji with a shy smile.
hanni's smile dropped as she realised what y/n had just said. she felt disappointed by y/n's answer.
she got her hopes too high up.
"you do?" minji asked, smiling widely at y/n. "I have a crush on you too," minji replied, shyly rubbing her nape and turning away.
"really?" y/n asked as she felt her cheeks burn. hanni turned to minji, shocked by her answer. she didn't know they both liked y/n.
y/n looked at hanni and could see that her eyes seemed sad.
sensing the tension in the air, y/n decided to take action. she stood up and walked over to where hanni was sitting.
"hanni, I want you to know that you're my friend and I care about you a lot. but minji and my feelings for each other are real, and I hope you can understand that. we won't let that ruin our friendship," y/n said, trying to reassure hanni.
hanni looked up at y/n, her eyes still filled with sadness. "I know, y/n. I'm happy for you and minji, but it still hurts a little," hanni replied, her voice filled with emotion.
"why does it hurt?"
"I like you too," hanni whispered and y/n's heart dropped at the confession.
"hanni, I'm sorry. I just don't feel the same way," y/n sincerely apologised. hanni sighed and looked down.
y/n gave her a hug as minji rubbed her back to comfort her. y/n and minji felt guilty for making their friend upset.
"I know it's hard, but we'll always be friends. and who knows, maybe you'll find someone else who will make you just as happy as minji makes me," y/n said, trying to lift hanni's spirits.
hanni smiled weakly and hugged y/n back, grateful for her understanding and support. y/n then turned to minji and took her hand, smiling at her.
—
"minji, I'm so happy that you feel the same way I do. will you go out with me?" y/n asked, when they were alone. her heart was racing with excitement at the thought of her crush liking her back.
minji beamed at y/n and squeezed her hand. "yes, of course I will!" she replied, her eyes filled with happiness. she slowly leaned in to give y/n a gentle kiss on the lips.
y/n felt her heart skip a beat as they pulled away from the kiss. minji gently took y/n's hand and looked deeply into her eyes. "I've had feelings for you for a long time, y/n," she said softly. "I just didn't know if you felt the same way."
y/n smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "I have been bottling up my feelings too," she admitted sheepishly. "I just wasn't sure how to tell you."
the two girls sat there in silence for a moment, just enjoying each other's company. it was a beautiful summer evening, and the stars were shining brightly overhead.
eventually, they heard a rustling in the bushes nearby and saw hanni emerge from the shadows. she looked sad and alone, and y/n couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt in her heart.
"hanni," y/n said softly, motioning for her to come over. "I'm sorry," y/n apologised again and pulled hanni into another tight hug, in hopes to comfort her for not being able to reciprocate her feelings.
hanni shrugged, looking down at her feet as they pulled away. "I'm fine," she said, but her voice was low and sad.
she put her arm around hanni's shoulder and held her close.
"listen, hanni," minji said softly. "y/n and I are together now, but that doesn't mean we don't love you. you're still our friend, and we care about you."
hanni looked up, her eyes filled with tears. "I know," she said softly. "it's just that i don't want to be just friends... with y/n."
y/n felt her heart sink at hanni's words. she didn't want to hurt her friend, but she couldn't deny her feelings for minji either.
"I'm sorry, hanni," y/n said softly. "I do care about you deeply. but minji and I like each other."
hanni nodded, tears streaming down her face. "I understand," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
y/n hugged hanni tightly, feeling guilty for causing her pain. she knew that their friendship might never be the same again, but she hoped that they could eventually find a way to move forward.
as the three girls sat there in silence, y/n couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness and regret. she wished that things could be different, but she knew that she couldn't change the way she felt.
y/n walked upstairs with hanni, hand in hand, feeling both happy and conflicted. hanni was following them closely from behind, head hanging low.
minji shot her a smile which y/n returned. she felt a pang of guilt when she glanced behind, seeing hanni alone.
she knew that she loved minji, but she also knew that her friendship with hanni had been forever changed with her confession.
