It’s been ten minutes since we are stranded here at the gas station. Liam has asked for my phone earlier to call Daniel. He is telling him about what happened and how he wanted him to block his cards and online payment so any kind of transaction can’t happen. I watch him rant out angrily on phone whilst chewing heavily on my nails.

I still can’t believe that we have been robbed. We are robbed right? I mean I don’t even know whether we are or not because that car was not ours nothing was ours in there except Liam’s phone which was expensive. Although my bag was gone too but it’s least of my worry since there wasn’t anything expensive. The most expensive thing that could’ve been gone of me is my sketchbook but luckily I am holding it right now. All thanks to my wet painting that didn’t make me put it into my bag.

That creepy man who I thought is innocent because of his background turned out to be a cunning pig. The shopkeeper inside saw the whole ordeal of how we get fooled and told us that this kind of things has happened in past a lot. People hitchhike with locals thinking they’re kind and innocent only to get scammed later, with all their money or other expensive things gone.

“About three months ago, they injured a man’s wife who wasn’t giving her gold necklace.” The shopkeeper told us. Hearing him I finally registered the look that man was giving me. He wasn’t looking at my chest but he was actually looking at the pendant that I am wearing. He was behind that actually.

I would’ve literally bleed to death for this pendant even if I’ve too. No one is going to make me remove it.

I touch my pendant and sigh. I’m actually not worried about bag and its content because the main things are safe. At least of mine.

I look towards Liam who ends the call and runs his hands through his hairs in frustration. Out of nowhere he yells and lifts his hand to throw, but I quickly yell back to prevent what he is doing.

“Stop! That’s my phone.” I hurriedly say. “The only source of communication; without it we might just take a job here and start a life.”

He stops in midair, looking at his extended hand which has my phone before looking at me. He mutters something inaudible before giving back my phone.

“Will Daniel be able to block your cards and phone?” I ask because I didn’t know Daniel could do it.

“Yeah he has connection. I think by now he must’ve done it already.” He replies.

“That bastard really tricked us.” He seethes angrily out of nowhere.

“I still can’t believe he would do that. I mean what exactly did he even get? My bag which has nothing and yes your phone is expensive but still if he is going to sell it—it isn’t worth all this trouble.” I say.

“He must’ve thought it contains some valuable besides my phone price won’t give him much money—max. two days living that to if he is going to spend it wisely. Although if he got the access of my money apps then he sure would’ve hit the lottery but I am not worried about that.” He says staring at the path that robber went away on.

“What’s more important than money that you had in that phone?” I ask. He looks down at me, making eye contact. I see the orange glow in his eyes due to the way he is facing towards the sun.

“It contained my source of everything and it shouldn’t be under wrong hands.” He answers vaguely and steps inside the shop. Leaving me confused and dazed.

I don’t understand a word he said, I mean I did understand but not the meaning. I scrunch my eyebrows before following him inside and find him talking to that shopkeeper.
