"Guys, the rupture's getting worse." We were currently engrossed in a critical mission, which was preventing the rupture from undergoing catastrophic fragmentation. Right now, the emergence of gas from the rupture was imminent as gas started to come out. "That's natural gas. We have to fix that leak or it'll explode. Go check the rest of the pipeline for cracks." Chase imparted instructions to Bree. " On it." she stated before hastening away. Meanwhile, I affixed a remote device to the rupture, aiming to evaluate its stability. The remote initiated a series of beeps, indicating an unstable condition. "Chase, we have to move fast. The whole pipe is unstable." I panicked; my attention intently focused on the rupture's precarious state.
" You ever wondered what it'd be like if we weren't bionic? What's, like, the first thing you'd do?" Adam queried, his demeanor undisturbed by the impending crisis, as he leaned nonchalantly against the colossal pipeline. "Not get trapped in these stupid conversations?" retorted Chase with a touch of sarcasm. "You know what I'd do if I wasn't bionic? Try and become bionic." he smirked.
"Can we just do this?" I I interjected, attempting to steer the discourse back to the exigent situation at hand. "Fine. I'll seal the crack with my heat vision." Adam proclaimed, taking a few steps toward the pipe. "Yes, let's shoot blistering heat at highly flammable gas." I nodded sardonically, crossing my arms over my chest. Adam rolled his eyes at me. "I just said that. Were you not listening?" " Just let me contain it with my force field first. Now, Dawn, you can freeze it gradually as Adam uses his heat vision." "On it." Chase encompassed the rupture within his forcefield before he let us do our thing. "All right, it's only gonna hold for a few seconds. Go!" Adam and I synchronized our efforts—my freezing capability, coupled with Adam's controlled application of heat vision, successfully safeguarded the pipeline from impending disaster. " Pipe secure." Adam confirmed, causing me to sigh in relief.
Bree rejoined our midst just as we finished securing the pipeline. Her hair was disheveled and had cuts and branches entwined in her brown locks. " Checked all 200 miles --- 70 of which had poison oak." Bree shared with us as she extracted remnants of the poison oak from her hair. "All right, let's get out of here." Chase said to us as Bree idly scratched at her neck. "All right, grab on." She said, pivoting to face the other way. A momentary silence ensued, as Chase and Adam glanced at her appearance. "Actually, I'm going to take the bus." "Me too." As they ran out I turned to her. "Let's go. I don't wanna be here anymore than I have to be." I enveloped her waist as we super sped away.
...
The next day, as we were entering the school doors, we encountered students who either averted their gazes or appeared engrossed in their electronic devices. Curiosity piqued, we approached Perry, seeking elucidation. "What's everybody lookin' at?" "A new viral video. Guess what it's called? 'The World's First Bionic Humans.'" "What?!" Chase, Bree and I exclaimed. "Wait, there are other bionic people? Then why are we working so hard?" Adam pondered aloud, prompting collective eye rolls. "She's talking about us." I stated the obvious much to my dismay. "Yeah, look." She held out the tablet to show us what everybody was looking at. The video showed Chase, Adam and I fixing the pipe as Bree super sped in. "That's yesterday's mission."
