"Act cool." I heard Adam whisper as I walked in, Bree trailing behind me. "I don't need to act. It's in my blood, baby." Leo shot back, as both leaned casually over the console. Bree noticed their sly grins and exchanged glances, raising an eyebrow. "Let me guess... pranking Chase again?" "No..." he began, his voice trailing off as a grin spread across his face and burst into little giggles. "Yeah..."
"Adam, you're so immature." Bree scoffed, crossing her arms and shot him a glare. "Eh, I've been called worse." he shrugged, completely unfazed as I rolled my eyes and leaned against the console. "Oh, come on, Bree. Little pranks never hurt anyone." I added, earning a skeptical raise of her eyebrows.
"Have you met my brothers?" she asked, before scoffing at my silence. She was right, but I ain't gonna tell her that. She uncrossed her arms, striding over to her capsule with a huff. "All right, well, I'm going to bed. Wake me up when I'm old enough to move out." Bree declared, stepping inside. giving her a cheeky thumbs-up as a snicker tugged at the corner of his mouth.
As she slammed the capsule shut, a sudden spray of cold milk drenched her, splattering over her hair and clothes. I yelped, slapping my hand over my mouth in shock, while Adam gasped, eyes wide.
"Oh. Chase's capsule is the one in the middle!"
...
Because of what Adam did to Bree, I immediately ordered him to clean her capsule, while Leo sprayed Bree down, who was wrapped snugly in a towel, glaring daggers at him as she wiped her face. "Rigged the wrong capsule again, Adam?" Chase smirked as he strolled in, clearly amused by yet another of Adam's failed attempts."Mmm...maybe." Adam muttered, hesitating as Donald and Tasha walked into the lab, taking in the chaotic scene. "What happened in here? And why does my lab smell like a locker room in a gym that only cows go to?"
"Ah, honey, who did this to you?" Tasha asked Bree, eyeing her drenched clothes and damp hair. "Who. Do. You. Think?" Bree snapped, pointing directly at Adam, who raised his eyebrows innocently. "Wow. Ruining pranks and blaming others. Not making any friends today, are you, Bree?"
Tasha shook her head, exasperated. "Grandma Rose is visiting tomorrow, and I want this behaviour to stop. You three—go get the cleaning supplies. Now." She pointed at the boys, her tone leaving no room for argument. "I'm so sick of getting caught in their crossfire." she groaned as the boys scurried out of the lab, heads down, clearly chastised for their antics. "Last week, Chase was pranking Adam, and I ended up in a pet store window!"
Donald laughed, and we immediately shot him the sharpest, most withering glare we could muster. "That's funny!" he protested, holding his hands up in mock surrender, but our narrowed eyes made it clear we weren't amused. "I'm sorry! Look, I'll talk to them. I'll lay down the law." he promised, his voice tinged with desperation, trying to smooth over the mess he'd helped create. "Thank you." Tasha gave a small, precise bow before leaving the lab. Her calm demeanor revealed that her worry might have eased, that her mother's visit tomorrow would go as smoothly as possible. Smoothly as it can be. Donald leaned closer, lowering his voice. "Look, don't tell Tasha I told you this, but the only way you're gonna get them to stop, is to fight fire with fire. You have to prank them, and you have to prank them hard."
