In the lab, Chase was fully absorbed in the console, his fingers flying over the keys with focused precision. Meanwhile, Bree, Adam, and I were casually chatting among ourselves, lounging on adjacent consoles, well, all of us except Adam, who couldn't sit still, careful not to disrupt Chase. Our interaction continued until the sound of rapid footsteps drew our attention. Leo burst into the lab, his expression lit up with excitement. "Guys, Alien Gladiators are coming to Mission Creek." He announced, smiling widely.
Adam gasped. "I knew this day would come." He backed away until he reached the other console, grabbing a tinfoil hat from beneath the it. "Thankfully, I'm prepared for an alien invasion." We exchanged bewildered looks as he pointed his finger at Chase. "Chase, you hold them off while the rest of us make our escape." He declared, hurrying over to Bree and I, grabbing us from our arms and began running away with us in his hold. Bree and I let out startled shrieks. However, Adam was stopped by Leo. "No, no." He told him and moved closer to us, causing Adam to let go of our arms. "Not real aliens. My favourite sci-fi movie franchise: Alien Gladiators. They host annual fan conventions, and this year, it's in Mission Creek."
As he finished explaining, Chase joined us, expressing his enthusiasm for Alien Gladiators, mimicking the movie's deep voice and gestures alongside Leo. "Oh, I love Alien Gladiators. In the future, rival alien worlds, the Morfs and the Zarkanians will battle over control of the galaxy!" Adam furrowed his brows, as he gazed into the horizon, probably thinking back to when we watched the movie. "Oh, I remember that movie. It was terrible."
"Yeah, the whole thing was blurry." I added, also recalling that day. "You didn't wear your 3D glasses." Bree shrugged her shoulders and scoffed at me. "Oh, that explains so much." I mused, reminiscing about my confusion as to why there were 3D glasses in the first place. "I knew aliens didn't really look like that!" I exclaimed to Adam, making him nod, agreeing. "I bet the entire cast will be there. I have everybody's autograph. Except for the new guy playing Prince Landor in the sequel: Andre Ethier." Chase discussed eagerly, now in front of Leo. Bree's interest piqued upon hearing about Andre Ethier's presence. Whoever that is.
"Whoa, whoa, wait. As in baseball superstar Andre Ethier?" Bree asked, her voice tinged with hope and barely concealed excitement.
Chase raised a brow, clearly skeptical. "Since when do you care about baseball?" he asked, arms folding across his chest, a knowing look playing on his face. She scoffed, brushing off the question. "I love baseball. You know, with the bases and... the ball." Chase crossed his arms and nodded as if he were believing her. Bree noticed his behaviour and finally dropped the act with an eye-roll. "Okay, whatever. Andre Ethier's cute, and if he's there, I'm there."
"Add him onto the list." I chimed in with a snicker, pretending to admire my nails like they were suddenly fascinating. From the corner of my eye, I saw her head snap toward me— her glare sharp enough to slice through steel and her nostrils flaring.
"The convention is going to be awesome!" Leo smiled just as I remembered something that I saw on my phone earlier. "I heard they're bringing back the fire staff challenge. Whatever that is." That statement made Leo smile with excitement. "This..." Leo walked over to the other console we have in the lab. "... is a fire staff." He spun the fire staff a few times and planted it on the ground till it glowed green.
