I was lounging on the couch, watching the boys play Mental Chaos. "Yes! Totally gonna make it to the final level!" Chase exclaimed. But just as he said it, their helmets turned red, signaling their defeat. They sighed and slumped onto the couch beside me.
"I just wasted three hours of my life getting to that level. I'm never playing Mental Chaos again." Leo groaned.
"Me neither." Chase and Adam chimed in. I silently counted to three with my fingers, knowing they wouldn't be able to resist. After the count down, they went for their controllers to play another round. "Leo, will you stop playing that game? It is nothing but a huge time-waster that is going to rot your brain." Tasha parented, walking towards us. Donald, on the other hand, got excited and practically leaped over me to stand between Leo and Chase. "Ooh, Mental Chaos! I got next!"
Tasha shot him a disapproving glance. "Donald! I was just telling Leo that he's playing too much." "Huh, you're telling me. He almost beat my high score." Donald said smugly, as Leo handed him the helmet and hand controller. "I'm just saying, this game is affecting him. Last week, he tried to pause me. Twice!" Tasha complained.
"Oh, that would come in handy." Donald and I said simultaneously, sharing a laugh with the boys. "--if it weren't so wrong." Davenport added, under Tasha's stern gaze. "Okay. Leo, what else are you interested in?" He asked him, standing up and put the controller and helmet away.
"Well, I keep telling you I'd love to work with you in the lab. Dawn sometimes does." Leo suggested, hopeful.
"Yeah, and I keep telling you I don't wanna die in a fiery explosion." Donald replied, brushing off the idea and began to walk away. "Dawn is much smarter than you. She's my daughter, like daughter like dad."
"Not exactly." I muttered under my breath, knowing his ego was way bigger than mine. However, Tasha wasn't giving up and halted her husband in his tracks. " Donald, this is perfect! Leo wants to be like you, and you love you."
I zoned out for a moment as Adam handed me the helmet and controller, and we started another round of the game.
"Hey, I thought I told you guys to get lost. The coolest girls in school are coming for a sleepover, and I don't want this place smelling like feet and pickles." Bree said, appearing out of nowhere.
Adam sniffed his armpit to check if it was him she was describing. "Well, not me. I'm armpits and onions."
"Hey, why does she get to have a party?" Chase complained.
"Because she needs to socialize more with girls, other than Dawn so she'll stop challenging random strangers to loogie contests. Matter of fact, both of you should stop." Tasha interjected.
"Aw, but they're the champ!" Adam whined. "They have had some epic hang times." "You gotta work up a green one. They're meatier." I added, nodded along with Bree.
