The following day, Adam, Chase, Leo, and I gathered around the lockers, our conversation buzzing with anticipation about the upcoming school dance. "Guys, with the dance coming up, I thought you could use a lesson on how to ask a lady out." Adam raised an eyebrow, clearly not catching Leo's implication. "Oh, great. Do you know a guy who can teach us?"

Leo puffed out his chest proudly. "Me! You're gonna watch me ask out the girl of my dreams: Danielle." His eyes drifted wistfully toward her down the hall, a dazed smile spreading across his face. "Danielle? Isn't she the girl who uses you as a footstool in math class?" I asked, leaning against the lockers.

"Where else is she supposed to put her feet? On the floor?!" he exclaimed, as if that suggestion was the most ridiculous thing he'd ever heard. "Open your notebooks, boys, 'cause class is in session." He muttered, striding confidently toward Danielle.

As he approached her, I leaned over them and whispered. "I bet twenty bucks she forgets his name." "You're on." they replied, and we shook on it with matching grins.

"Hello, Danielle." He propped his foot up on the stool like he was in a cheesy movie. Not creepy or weird at all. "Do you know how much a polar bear weighs?" Leo asked smoothly as she gave him a confused shake of her head. "Enough to break the ice." He grinned and slid into the seat next to her. "I'm Leo Dooley."

She blinked as if recognising the name. "Didn't you send me... 87 emails?"

Eighty-seven? Yikes. Someone's desperate. "Yeah." he nodded like it was no big deal. "That was a slow day."

"Okay, well, see you later, Lenny." She got up and walked off, with her bag around her shoulder, clearly bored of the conversation.

"It's Leo, by the way." he called after her, waving awkwardly.

I turned to the boys and held out my hand. Without a word, they slapped twenty bucks each into my palm with distained looks. Score. When Leo walked over Chase smirked, looking over at his notes. "So, Leo... what should I write down in my notebook?" Chase teased. "I mean, other than 'denied'?"

"No, no, no, you can cheat off me." Adam chimed in. "I have, 'She's not going to the dance with Lenny.' " He burst into laughter just as their sister walked up, visibly annoyed. "Are you guys talking about the dance too? Why is everybody making such a big deal out of this stupid dance?"

"Nobody's asked you yet, have they?" Chase smirked, causing us to let out a few teasing chuckles. "No! I really wanna go with that guy. His name is Ethan. We sit next to each other in chemistry. Coincidence? I think not. Chemistry!" she sang, wiggling her fingers dramatically, then sighed. "What should I do?"

"I got this." Chase said confidently, stepping forward and tuning in with his super hearing to eavesdrop on Ethan and his friend's conversation.

A second later, he looked shocked. "He's talking about a girl he thinks is cute..." Then his face twisted in disgust. "Eww! He's talking about you!" "He's coming over here right now to ask you to the dance." Chase added, pulling back as he finished listening.
