The lab hummed with the steady whir of machines as we scrambled to get ready for school. Adam, naturally, managed to derail the morning with a single sentence. Holding up a glass jar like it was some priceless artifact, he beamed. "Hey, can I use this? I need a place to store my toenail clippings." Bree, her expression hardening, eyes narrowing in disgust, raised her brows.
"You save your toenails?" Leo asked, his voice caught between horror and disbelief. "Of course. They're nature's toothpicks." Adam replied, utterly serious. I choked back a laugh as Bree sighed in defeat, addressing Leo. "You don't even want to know what he flosses with." She shut the conversation down before Leo could make it worse. "Trust me, you don't want to ask any more questions—especially not ones you don't want the answers to." I added firmly, making Leo form a weird look on his face like he couldn't believe it. It's Adam for Christ's sake.
"Hey, get away from that!" Before Leo could respond, Chase darted forward, snatching the glass jar out of Adam's hands like it was a live grenade. "It's not empty! There are thousands of metallic nanobots in there!"
"Well, then, why can't I see them?" Adam blinked at him, completely unfazed. "Because they're microscopically small." he replied, his voice dripping with a duh tone, as if stating the obvious. Adam tilted his head, thinking. "But you're microscopically small, and I can still see you." I broke into laughter, nearly doubling over but he glared, his jaw tight, and shook his head in pure frustration at both of us. "Nanobots are so tiny, they're invisible to the human eye." he explained, emphasizing each word like he was talking to preschoolers. "Oh, right—now I remember." I said, grabbing a sleek pair of glasses off the console. I held them out to Adam. "He designed these so you can actually see them. Here—try 'em."
Adam slipped the glasses on, and his jaw dropped instantly. "Whoa!" he gasped, his whole face lighting up in awe.
"They function like mini-doctors inside the human body." Chase explained, slipping effortlessly into lecture mode. "When patients swallow them, they'll seek and destroy any diseased cells or foreign matter." Adam's eyes widened behind the glasses. "Ooh!" He yanked them off, clutching them like a kid with a new toy. "I got a tennis ball and a mini Statue of Liberty somewhere in my gut." He patted his stomach proudly. "It's time to swallow a search party." As he tipped the jar toward his mouth Chase lunged, snatching the jar just in time. "Adam, no! Those are valuable!" His voice cracked in panic, clutching the glass. Meanwhile, Bree stood, slinging her bag over her shoulder with a dramatic sigh and a knowing look. "Come on, Leo. We don't want to step on broken glass."
Leo blinked, his brow furrowing. "What broken glass?" He turned just in time to see Chase and Adam tugging the jar back and forth like toddlers fighting over a toy.
